Considering the conditions when this performance took place, it hurts my stomach to think of singing in this occasion in a cold temperature without your usual band members. This was so courageous and yet so gentle and powerful at the same time in our digital age. Loved her in this performance 100%. Obama was so lucky to get her there.

Well, this is a late reply, but that band rocked. It is SO HARD to nail tuning in frigid temps, and the band sounded perfect. It is also so hard to sing in those conditions, and Kelly nailed it -- and from a huge distance from the conductor!!! This was one of those magical moments, reminds me of Marian Anderson in front of the Lincoln Memorial.

the emotion and vulnerbility in kelly's performance just touches the heart. it made you actually listen to the meaning and the lyrics. it made me tear up and get chills. all musical performers should take notes because THIS right here is what i call a true performance.

I was just listening to an interview Kelly had done and she was saying how she was pitchy in the beginning. It goes to show how much of a humble person and perfectionist she is.

Not only was this arrangement (and band performance) stunning, but Kelly sang it magnificently. Such soul and feeling. Many people sing and perform, but few feel the song which is what Kelly did and that's why I think people were moved to tears. She blew Beyonce out of the water and quite frankly, I love that she sang live instead of lip synching.

I was there when this was done. It was a powerful moment tht i'll never forget. Though most of the crowd started to flow back to the busses when President Obama stepped down from the rostrum after delivering the inaugural address.

I am actually from England and I served in the Air Force. I just happen to have the TV on when she started singing. I have never even heard of Kelly Clarkson before but when I heard this I was totally mesmorized by it. It was absolutely fantastic and although it's virtually the same tune as 'God save the Queen' which in my opion is dull and tiresome, these lyrics and they it was sung brought this tune back to life.

She wasn’t lip synching - Beyoncé sang live along *with* the track that had her recorded vocals. Let’s play fair. Honestly, both women are incredibly talented singers, and it’s not even comparing apples to apples because they both sang very different songs. Kelly’s singing was beautiful, but there’s a lot less pressure singing her song than singing the national anthem. Both singers are truly wonderful.

@@marcib6767 Kelly is a much stronger/more talented vocalist then Beyonce. Beyonce's more focused on being an entertainer - the dancing, stage effects, etc. Kelly hardly moves when she sings and holds everyone captive to her performance because of her VOICE. Kelly would have performed the National Anthem live as well in the same circumstances because that's her MO.

Marvin Gaye sang the National Anthem in '84 I believe, and I didn't think anyone would top it. Then came Whitney (lip-synced notwithstanding) and I was blown away, now Kelly Clarkson has blown me away with the My Country, ‘Tis of Thee. Kudos Kelly, amazing!
