It takes years--close to a decade or more--to prepare a real effective national response to a global pandemic like this, such as in the case of South Korea. They spent more than a decade preparing for the next global pandemic by stockpiling masks, ventilators, medical equipment, drugs, increasing the number of laboratories for testing, ICU beds, hospital beds, healthcare staff, developing drive-thru testing, creating a surveillance system using credit card purchases and smart phones for contract tracing, and contacting people to tell them to stop moving around so much. That's because they had 2 real-time dress rehearsals, SARS and MERS, in over a decade to work the kinks out of their response system. They were ready. We were not. We were never in the same boat as them in terms of national or local preparedness. We're in the same boat as Italy, Iran, China and the rest of the world in not being prepared for this with anything. Who's fault is that? It's Obama's because unlike South Korea, he experienced 4 real-time epidemics (e.g., MERS, Ebola, Zika and swine flu) as dress rehearsals for the next pandemic, yet he did nothing to prepare for this. He's the one who should have known better because he had firsthand experience in 4 headline epidemics, including Ebola (the mother of all pandemic viruses); whereas, South Korea only had 2. How were we less prepared than them? I don't blame Trump because he never experienced this before as POTUS. I will blame him in the future if he doesn't prepare for the next pandemic. But with only 2 months warning, all you can expect him to do is impose a travel ban early and shut everything down to buy time to try to catch up on the supplies needed, which he did to his credit. How in the world could Obama do nothing in preparation after he went through EBOLA of all things?!!
