More than 42% of US adults are now obese, making it the first time in history the national rate has passed the 40% mark, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which points out the steep and rapid rise of this serious health condition. In 1999 the obesity rate was a much lower 30%.

I just hate how increasingly hard it's becoming to avoid sugar. Sugary food and drinks are meant as a treat, but in every single corner shop or supermarket you literally can't avoid them. They're right in your face- absolutely everywhere. Especially coke Worst part is that I'm made to feel like a clown when I'm buying fresh fruit or vegetables. This isn't normal!

I completely agree. Even when it says 'natural', (E.g. natural/unflavoured) is still contains sugar. I've started making some of my own products because it's driving me insane!

It's not a treat. Sugar is a drug, and you're getting your fix (treat). Sugar is more addicting than cocaine. It's not hard to avoid sugar. Sounds like an excuse to me

@@dsclassic6568 depends where you live though. I was in my home country and nearly everything in the supermarket contained some type fo sugar and additives. To buy a yogurt that was purely milk and cultures, I had to travel and hour and a half (hence the reason i started to make my own). Other people unfortunately do not have that opportunity because the healthy stuff is expensive. There were fresh fruit and vegetables that were quite cheap in the street markets but you have to use it within a day or two because the electricity and water cuts nearly every day, sometimes for a month, and also, the food they sell is seasonal so there was no guarantee that you would be able to buy the same veg the next day. As a result, some people just went for the options that had sugar and additives but would last longer without a fridge. These companies know exactly what they're doing. The more people get sick the more the pharmaceutical companies benefit too...

I feel like best way to do it is to make cake or cookies yourself when there are birthdays or celebrations so that you can manage intake of the sugar yourself. You need to buy fruits when you wanna eat something sweet and such, however i wouldn't reccomend microwaving food.

The issue is that sugar is extremely addictive, more than cocaine, and they put it in everything. Personally, I think we should tackle sugar first and make it a controlled substance, at least for the kids. And the refined grains aren’t really an issue as much as the oils they extract from these grains that cause heart disease. 💞

I remember growing up in the 90s it was all about products being fat free. Sugar wasn't an issue. Remember the Senfield episode about them eating to much fat free frozen yogurt and them thinking it was ok until Jerry and Elaine started to gain weight. Sugar is more addictive than cocaine. I use to be 237lbs now 185. Keep track of sugar, sodium and carb intake. I do the one meal a day fasting letting my body process the last meal. I eat pretty much what I want during feeding time to the point of a coma at times. Drink nothing but water 90pct of the time and eat vegetables in every meal.

How can people be obessed when the price of food is skyrocketing?
@childwaters
@childwaters 3 жыл бұрын
Because cheap, processed food loaded with government-subsidized high-fructose corn syrup is the worst thing you can eat and it's what most people consume exclusively. Corporations have been out to addict people by engineering food to hit your "bliss point" with added sugar and salt in EVERYTHING--bread, salad dressing, ketchup, apple sauce, on and on. The only way to avoid it is eat fresh food with no processed food. Which is more work and more expensive.

All food is decently priced if you have the money to purchase it. In many places, the price of healthy food is irrelevant. Who cares how much broccoli costs if there isn't any at your local store. I think the ideal diet is a Vegetarian or Vegan diet, so when he says that eggs are healthier than Coke, I disagree because Coke is vegan. Now 60 pounds of added sugar doesn't cause you to gain 60 pounds of weight a year, so it implies that the body can tolerate a certain percentage of added sugar, so why not go Vegan? Sugar is an important nutrient. I've incorporated veggie stir fry with basmati rice to get healthy carbs and fat with no sugar. But I wouldn't say a no sugar breakfast is important. I feel fresh fruit juice like watermelon juice is really healthy for breakfast, just a tall glass which is basically all sugar. The book "Fit for Life" by Harvey Diamond talks about this type of breakfast because fruit digests quickly and gives energy. I try to also have a Peppermint tea in the afternoon with no sugar. I lost 70 pounds last year and have 50 more to go to get to a normal body weight. Another tip I would recommend is to replace meat with Pasta Marinara. Another good book on no sugar plant based is "The pH Miracle" by Dr. Robert Young.
