The homeless Trooper (Clone veteran) was from 501st Clone Battalion, which was Anakin's. Later on 501st Clone Battalion was transformed into 501st Legion - call name "Vader's fist". The director of the show wanted to draw a parallel - how Anakin as a jedi would have never allowed this, but Vader as a sith lord would.

Don't think it's that deep, the Jango Fett Clone War veterans were phased out and replaced. You'd probably find them lying about everywhere during this point in the timeline. Average audience won't make the connection to the 501st and Anakin's connection to them, it was only expanded on in the Animated series and literature.

I heard you ask "how are they related" referencing Luke and Owen and haven't seen anyone comment on it yet so... Owen Lars is Anakin's step brother, we learned in one of the prequals that Anakin's mother was sold to a moisture farmer Cliegg (I cheated and used the wiki for the name) and that he "actually married her". Cliegg already had a son Owen when Anakin's mother married him so Owen is Luke and Leah's uncle although not by blood.

That's why the song is called "Duel of Fates" They were fighting over the fate of young Anakin. If Qui-Gon hadn't died, his fate would have been very different. To Anakin, Qui-Gon was going to be like a father. Kenobi was more like a brother, a brother who didn't know how to give Anakin what he needed, and often restricted Anakin's movements in order to control him, including stopping Anakin from going to save his mother based on his premonition. (Anakin's unique force ability was to see the future, and ability that he became shut off from after Mustafar) Anakin, deep down, blamed Kenobi for his mother's death. Dave Filoni gave a beautiful explanation in a round table discussion, to this effect. He's the new George.

Not a huge Star Wars fans but appreciate the world building. As a casual viewer I'm quite enjoying the show. Go in with zero expectations, and it's almost great. It's pretty surreal seeing Vader and Obi-Wan in scenes together again. And it's super bizarre contrasting the world from Phantom Menace to this. The tonal difference is stark, and that's interesting to see on screen.

"It's hard, as an audience member, watching someone get set up..." This is a lot like Alfred Hitchcock's saying, "There is no terror in the bang, only in the anticipation of it." The audience sees what's happening, and knows the outcome in a way the characters don't, yet are powerless to cause any change. We are forced to wait and see if the characters can get out of the situation they're unwittingly walking into. The" friend who died long ago" that Leia reminds him of could be Padme, but could also be Satine Kryze, Obi-Wan's not-quite-girlfriend from Mandalore, that we were introduced to in the Clone Wars cartoon.

Remember, Obi-Wan has just been looking over Luke and working on Tatooine for the past 10 years, and it's on the outer rim, ie edge of the galaxy, so they don't hear much of what's going on. Owen's Dad married Shmi, Anakin's mother, so they are step siblings, also I don't know if you noticed, but there are 2 lightsabers in that box that he dug up, his and Anakin's that he picked up after their fight in Revenge of the Sith, the Veteran with the beard asking for credits was a clone trooper (same actor too, also the same as Boba Fett) And the girl that offer's him spice with the short pink hair is Ewan's real life daughter =)

What you're both forgetting is that Tatooine is on the fringes of the Galaxy. The whole point of hiding there is that there's not a lot of information going in and out of such a remote world. @@SolidSnake8295 I agree. All these reactors get pushed into watching in release order. NONE of the reactors are surprised by Annakin’s turn in episode 3, they only get surprised by how dark he goes. Also, everyone that watches in release order spends the entire prequel trilogy trying to figure out who the emperor is. Revenge of the Sith is already great but it’s even more of a shocker if you watch chronologically. If you watch them chronologically the only surprise you really lose is Luke & Leiah being siblings.

I love how John Williams provided the theme for the series and thus, after forty-five years, Obi-Wan finally has a theme of his own. Upon hearing it, I loved it, especially for how it fits Obi like a glove.

You need to watch both The Clone Wars and Rebels series, they're not exactly a grind, (one being only 7 seasons and the other only 4,) at 22 minutes each, (per episode,) even if you watch them casually, you'll thank yourself, I promise. ✌ edit; apparently I wasn't the first to try telling you lol 😇

Not that I'm saying they're a grind, but "only" doesn't fit before 7 seasons. Clone Wars has 133 episodes, that's a huge commitment to a reaction channel.

Now that you have a "Star Wars background" (the original trilogy and the prequels), I absolutely recommend watching The Mandalorian. It's basically a side story in the Star Wars universe but has many references to those movies that, while not essential, are very enjoyable to those familiar with what's come before.

Obi-wan is 47 in this series, while Ewan McGregor was 50. In A New Hope Obi-Wan is 57, while Alec Guiness was 62 so he was only 12 years older than Ewan was. Just 2 years off. Remarkable actually.

Since Obi-Wan actually plays before The Mandalorian in the timeline, it even makes sense to watch this series first. Obi-Wan knew Anakin was Vader. He saw the video in Episode 3 with Anakin kneeling before Palpatine. But he left him behind on Mustafar, dismembered, fatally wounded and burnt. For him, Anakin was dead. And after that he was hiding for ten years on Tatooine as a hermit. A remote planet, with just some larger cities. Most people may never have heard of or seen Darth Vader at all. For them it were the Inquisitors who instigated fear and terror. Not even the senate seems to have known at that point Vader was alive, since Bail Organa didn't mention him to Obi-Wan when pleading for help.

You're right about Qui Gon, he would have kept Anakin from falling to the dark side. The score to the fight between Qui Gon, Obi Wan, and Darth Maul is called "Duel of the Fates" exactly because their battle would decide the fate of Anakin and the whole galaxy for decades

Love your perspective on what might have happened to Anakin if Qui Gon survived. Props to whoever mentioned the true meaning of "Duel of the Fates" earlier in the comments As far as Vader goes, it would make sense why Obi doesn't know who he is. As far as Obi is concerned, he left Anakin to die. No one except Palpatine and the clones that were with him, witnessed Anakin survive. To the general public, Vader is mostly a feared myth, and Anakin was declared dead from Order 66. Vader is rarely seen and most who meet him, don't survive. Palpatine is really the main public face of the Empire. So while Obi may have heard whispers of Vader at some point, he had no reason to think it was Anakin. Some people (like Tarkin) who knew Anakin from before and spent time with Vader, eventually did deduce that Anakin and Vader were the same person. But to the average person, he was a terrifying ghost story. Also, like many here have said: I think you would love the Star Wars animated shows (Clone Wars and Rebels). They are wonderful (for the most part) and really add a lot to so many of our favorite characters!

At first no one knew who Darth Vader was. Who was this new guy? The Emperor knew but everyone thought Anakin died along with all the other Jedi. At first the Emperor’s troopers and High ranking officers didn’t respond to Darth Vaders orders and he killed so many The emperor had to intervene. The emperor finally told his officers an order from Vader was the same as an order from himself. A bacta tank was located in Darth Vader's castle on Mustafar, where the Dark Lord would relax and meditate outside of his life support armor with a modicum of comfort.
