Vader saying "I am not your failure" always tears me up. He's basically saying: "Don't blame yourself, Obi-wan." He tries to release Obi-wan from the guilt. Because Vader exactly knows he can blame noone but himself for all this. And he hates himself for the rest of his life. When Luke tries to turn him back, Vader truly wanted go back the light, but he felt he didn't deserve redemption.
@UltimaKeyMaster

And all along, Luke was right. That's the difference between Obi-Wan and Luke. Obi-Wan took the out Vader gave him and Luke refused despite Vader being personally responsible for killing close friends of his and indirectly his extended family. Luke is the hero Obi-Wan felt he didn't deserve to be.

Tbh its a lot more sinister and hateful than that..Vader isn't doing any favors for Obi at this point trying to release him of guilt lol When Lukes dealing with him we have a much differnt version of Vader then here. Its not just that he hates himself. He genuinely doesnt want to give Obi any kind of sense of connection/entitlement to him. And he even goes on to say he himself killed Anakin to dawn Vader so in his eyes hes ascended, not failed.

When he says "I am not your failure Obi wan" the light on his face his blue. It's like Anakin is accepting Obi Wan's apology and telling him that it's not his fault. And then it becomes red again when Vader returns. Brilliant creative choice there.

Also notice how different his face looks in those lights? When the blue is there, he has a more human look and less scarring, when red, he looks so much more monstrous. I don’t know if it’s just a lighting effect or if they used make up or cgi to change the face to reflect the personality half’s but it’s good.

He wasn't consoling him. It was the weakness in him attempting to assert control over something he lost: himself. He is so lost that everything he does is an attempt to control everyone and every situation. Even when he calls him master earlier in the fight it was after burying Obi Wan in the rocks. He was mocking Obi Wan, believing himself to be superior, but he is not.

I feel like that was the last final bit of empathy from Anakin to Obi Wan, after seeing obi wan tearfully apologize to everyone, it was one final monument to their incredibly deep friendship, I've heard other explanations, but I still want to believe that Anakin was intentionally releasing Obi-Wan from his guilt and regret.

When he was speaking to Obi Wan he was speaking as Vader, not Anakin. He even tells Obi Wan that he (Vader) killed Anakin and smiles when he says it. So while he realized that Anakin might be gone, he saw the man behind the mask. He couldn't do it looking him in the eye, the same way he couldn't do it in Episode III, even after Anakin slaughtered younglings. About Luke, well. Hell, he should have killed him at Mustafar out of sheer human compassion (never mind the Jedi code, anyone else with an ounce of humanity would have opted for a clean mercy kill over what at that point seemed like a wholly miserable way to die.). It's a very human moment. Obi-wan has been carrying his guilt about Anakin for a long time here. He feels he let his master down, he let his friend down, and he's doomed the galaxy. Because of something he knows to be a core part of himself (he can't kill his best friend Anakin) but knows, from a tactical, real-world, practical view, has to be done. And so, he has come to hate and regret the part of himself that he sees as most himself. I spent some time figuring out what Obi-wan is apologizing for, but then the line says "for everything."; Obi-wan is apologizing for his entire life, it feels like. For becoming a Jedi, and failing. For finding Anakin, and losing him. For being the reason why Anakin met Padme, for teaching Anakin how to use the Force, and on and on. The depth of regret is what we hear in McGregor's lines - the birth of Darth Vader broke two men. But then Darth Vader kind of takes it from him, by reminding him (as so often we need to be reminded), that it's not always all about us. Obi-wan was there, but Anakin's fall from grace was not Obi-wan's fault. Anakin made his own choices, killed himself, is doing his own thing. And though that doesn't make Obi-wan feel better, it does allow him to move on - which is why I think that in Episode IV, Ben Kenobi is so mattered of fact about how Darth Vader killed Anakin Skywalker. Because that has become a truth to him, and a truth he needed to understand to get through his own guilt and regret. It's the story Obiwan told himself, and I think it's true but better than true. It's also what Obi-wan needed to believe. I think this series does a great job; even though it doesn't tell us much new about the world, helps fill in what is going on in Obi-wan's head and that has such a great impact on the entire saga.

No windu played a very small part of it. Kenobi was by a part larger in his fall. Obi Wan failed Anakin but how they did their training. Anakin needed a teacher that wasn't so by the book like obi wan was. He needed someone who could and be strict when needed and wasn't always the father or big brother Obi Wans failure to Anakin is ironically in no way his own misdoing simply the wrong style of teacher for what Anakin needed. If Qui Gon had survived Anakin would not of Fallen. Had Dooku taught Anakin, and not let Qui Gons death sway him to the dark side, Anakin would not of Fallen.

Its cause Vader became his coping mechanism. That was actually Anakin coming back temporarily to tell Obi Wan that. That he accepted what he did and how he lost his family was his fault and no one elses. But then switches back to Vader before becoming emotional with Obi Wan and goes back to full rage and evil. His friends got close over the years to get him to kick out Vader, but only Luke his actual family was the one that could do it. His family's death was the reason he made Vader after all.

Pure? I don't think that's so. It's the same ol' Anakin from the beginning... a brief moment of nobil good will, turned, ruined by pride. Anakin was the Phantom Menace from the beginning. @@SilvaEagle1998 There were multiple menaces. There were subtextual layers. Too much to describe here, unless you and others would like to hear. In short, the end credits sum it up, closing with little Anakin... breathing as little Vader. It's all a phantom mask. A foreshadow. Symbolism. Vader has the ultimate mask. Vader is a puppet master, and seems like the ultimate puppet; a robot-marionette. Palpatine can palpate the process of the prophecy and seems like the ultimate puppet master, and is the ultimate puppet of the force, which must have balance. There are menaces everywhere. Maul is the obvious foil, Binks can actually be said to be it, Sidious is insidiously so, but the whole story is about Vader and the Skywalker royal family. It's the story about Vader's becoming, repentance, and redemption. It's Greco Roman mythology, Christianity, Shakespeare, et al. Gotta hand it to Lucas. A masterful story teller.

You can decipher it by the lighting of the lightsaber. When Obi-Wan sliced Darth Vader’s helmet, it was red and blue; indicating who Obi-Wan sees (Anakin) but it was Vader. When Obi-Wan began to apologize to Anakin (bc that’s who he sees), the lighting is more blue than red, signifying that the person responding to Obi-Wan was indeed Anakin. After that, the man in the suit is more red than blue, revealing who he became, who killed Anakin…Darth Vader. Then when Obi-Wan leaves, We see a moment where there was no red nor blue; this I think means that at that instance there was a moment that whatever was left of Anakin has faded, which finally transitions to engulfing red as Obi-WAN leaves him after being said that Anakin is truly dead and addresses him as Darth Vader. And thus he became fully Darth Vader. P.S this is my take from this scene, idk if it’s accurate 🤷‍♀️ or digging too much

One thing i always loved about Star Wars no matter who the writer and or director was is how they use colors to symbolize little things. Notice just after Obi cuts Vaders helmet and Obi can see his face again, Anakin's face is in the blue light emmited from Kenobis lightsaber but Vaders face is in red. As they talk coupled with the voice of Vader and Anakin being mixed which I did really like, the blue slowly turns to red as Anakin succumbs to Vader yet again. Vaders side of the helmet constantly being bathed in the red becomes more prevalent as Anakin slowly becomes Vader again. Such cool touches that are pretty consistent throughout the whole series.

In the case of storyboarding and storytelling, it holds up. But in execution, they both feel terribly out of practice XD. The're slow, their spins look clumsy and a lot of the decisions(Aka pummeling Vader with rocks only to have them do absolutely nothing) feels like they were done for empty spectacle. They both acted their asses off and did amazing on the story beats but the actual fight felt lackluster, especially compared to the OT and Sequel trilogy. Still leagues better then the new trilogy due to the emotional weight though.
