The Republic, and this is actual canon, passed legislation that made it legal for the Trade Federation to have an army. The Outer Rim, essentially the wild west, had very little protection from the Republic, and so saw attacks from pirates and others. Yet the Outer Rim offered very valuable materials. So, in part thanks to Palpatine and Corp lobbyists, the Republic allowed the Trade Federation to create their own army. It was only later, after the Trade Federation had created a monopoly on all goods traveling between the Outer Rim and Core Worlds, that they saw this as a problem.

@@renevil2105 Padme and the guard captain had some uncharacteristically flat line delivery in a scene on Tatooine. Jar Jar can be seen off to the side mouthing the same words as they are being said, almost like he is using force persuasion. Jar Jar also has a huge jump off screen during the battle in Theed, the droids on screen track his movement with their heads and it isn't a height a non-force user could reach.

Aww, you didn't point out all the times Jar Jar is mouthing words in the background that other characters would be saying, as if he's putting the words in their mouth. Also, his hand gesturing when he talks at integral moments may be like a Jedi mind trick to influence people, such as his promotions and his speech in the senate for Palpatine to get emergency powers. And his clumbsiness has been compared to drunk-fist wushu, where you act intentionally staggeringly drunk in order to fool your opponent.

It’s not far fetched to think that George Lucas directed Phantom Menace with the Darth Jar Jar theory in mind, but following Jar Jar’s huge unpopularity following that movie’s release I think he dropped that plot line. Which is why we see none of that in the next two movies.

Man, this is what disney shoudl have done. about everything. FIrst, sith JarJar was a must, he was plagueis all along, perfect. Second, Kenobi series being about Obi wan just chilling with Qui Gon's ghost, talking about old times. That was what we fans wanted to see.

To be honest, when I first saw Episode I in the theatre on opening night back in ‘99 I was actually into it. But…the first major sign that things weren’t quite up to par was when that gungan said to Jar Jar, “Youssa in big doo doo dis time.” Not to mention that farting camel thing. Ughh…….

Lucas did admit that he did have big plans for Jar Jar but made last minute changes based on fan reception. Anyhow an interesting aspect of the Darth Jar Jar Theory is the comparisons to Yoda in the Empire Strikes Back. Yoda in that movie is based on a story telling trope of encountering a character that at first seems to be insignificant but later reveals to be very important to the story. When Luke first met Yoda, he did come off as a badly written comic relief character like Jar Jar, only to be revealed later to be the Master Jedi that Luke was seeking. Can totally buy the idea that the prequels meant to have an evil inverse of that type of character. Tho the reason why Yoda works is because his Twist was revealed in the same movie he was introduced in, while it pretty clear that if they are going to do a big twist with Jar Jar it would have been in the next 2 movies. This Theory came out just before the release of The Force Awakens, and some people speculate that they may incorporate the Darth Jar Jar Theory into the new Trilogy. Not sure Jar Jar would work, but having the main villian being a loose end from the past movies would have been better than bringing back Palpatine

Adding upon the throw away gag relief character, the prequels had a lot of correlation to Azimoves foundations series. The only major character without 1 to 1 representation is the Motley Fool, who much like darth jar jar came across as a useless idiot, but was secretly a scheming immortal manipulating everyone with the intent of plunging the galaxy into chaos.

So jar jar WAS 100% going to be the big bad. George Lucas always said jar jar was the key.. he's the most important. He's his favorite character.. But jar jar got such a TERRIBLE review and everyone hated him so much that George Lucas had to go back and find a new big bad. That's why Count Dooku literally popped up out of nowhere.
