I have a doubt that after uploading the code to the arduino. Do you power arduino and gsm module simultaneaously or you only power gsm module and arduino also get power from gsm module ?

I gave supply to both. Gave power supply from adapter to GSM and connected the Arduino to laptop through cable

Yes Correct. Laptop is to just upload the code. You can use Power Banker for the power supply to the board.
