Never change
I miss running round in the garden
Chasing dragonflies in the high sun
Screaming till we loose our voices
Hope we never loose our smiles
Remember when it’d rain and we’d dance outside
We didn’t have much but we have life
To me that is all that matters
Time was just a stranger then
Stay like this
Forever
Never change
Stay like this
forever
Never change
I wish the world would spin more slowly
I don’t recognise myself
Everyone around me’s changing
Colours fade to black and white
I’ll do all I can just to stay alive
And e no pretty
Look away
Look away
I write so you can know our stories
I fight so you don’t have to run
Stay like this
Forever
Never change
Stay like this
forever
Never change
The world is failing all around you
n’ Everything is upside down
n’ Everyday you start to notice
Everyday it breaks my heart
You’re too precious all you’re questions are parables that don’t make sense
You wish that you were big like me
I wish that I can see like you
Everyday we thread on open caskets
My sky is grey my air is blue
These motherfuckers took away my innocence
I won’t let them do the same to you
(say o)
Everyday we thread on open caskets
My sky is grey my air is blue
These motherfuckers took away my innocence
I won’t let them do the same to you
Stay like this
forever
Stay like this
Forever

I was watching that Little Simz thing. I LOVE IT. And I was thinking what is it I like so much about this. Rap is not really my thing. So I came to see what you do. Its YOU I like. Its so long since I've found any music that has really moved me. I wish you many more years making music, I don't even think you've hit the best of what you will do yet. You are finding yourself, your soft and quiet as well as your power. F*cking awesome. ❤

So awesome! His growth so far is amazing and will continue to be because I’ve realized obongjayar is one of the few artists/ human vessel that can effectively channel our ancestors through and create amazing timeless art that can heal, inspire and awaken the masses…..obongjayar is exactly who he thinks he is and I’m honored to watch him grow and elevate to his full potentials cause the world especially we his people Nigerians, need him…

Wow..I think I need to take course in Obongjaya's music. I really like this pogniant song and I love his voice. But I know I am missing so much in this piece. I can't just can't figure out the full meaning and message. I can only feel this. His words go past your brain and straight to your heart. I need some type of course for my mind to understand it.

everytime i listen to this song i wish i'd had it when i was younger. i got bullied plenty as a kid, i was always a little weirdo. what's worse was i was always blamed for it by the kids and them teachers. "if i got better at sports then it would stop", "if i changed this about myself", "if i joined them in this and that". i felt truly worthless, because they told me i was. and i believed them. it got to a point where i couldn't deal with being here anymore. but i realised, if i changed or gave up on this world and myself, then they would have won. and so although i've grown and learnt over the years, it is the qualities i value in myself the ones they tried to take from me, that have never changed. thank god i didn't. and thank god for this banger. big up obongjayar. thank you.

I just found Obong, amazing artist, I am overwhelmed by the beauty. I see a bit David Bowie last period. The videos imagery is beyond, in this videos in particular there are parts that remains me of Buñuel (the surrealist film director) movies, like the hand- ants clips at the end... so creative and complex art packages. I am so happy I have the chance of finding his art, looking forward to get to know more ❤️.

I relate this song to an allegory of the African peoples. It describes the passage of assaulting maturation that all humans are forced through in life; but I see a grand picture of the centuries of my continent in this song. As an African, I will fight in life...so you don't have to run.

@@davidmadden486 He's talking about a child. You know when a child asks a dumb question that makes no sense like a "parable", but it's cute because it shows how curious they are and how open their mind is, so it's "precious." He wants the child to stay like that forever, and never let the world change them. Hence the title "Never change."

Is Nigeria such a nightmare landscape? Obongjayar's videos often paint a picture of a dark or dystopian world.
@andreyking2062
@andreyking2062 4 жыл бұрын
Yes it dystopian theres progress, there's basic development, but no freedom, a lot of infrastructure still missing. Our leaders prefer to be beggars than to use our wealth to better us. And tribalism, loyalties are still to ethnicities instead of to the nation. We are not fully integrated. We have scientist, the Igbos are very good in science, the yoruba are very artistic, the hausa are unique put together you get a more harmonious nation .
@ruthlessruth4197
@ruthlessruth4197 2 жыл бұрын
There's a dystopian underlayer to any society. It just takes a certain heart, and/or set of experiences. to be drawn to perceiving and conversing with it. Intrigued by it, haunted by it, growing inside it and at times emerging from it. The more common proclivity is to ignore, dismiss, simplify or minimise it. To turn toward the shiny, sugar coated and false. Thank God for the artists 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
@rr7firefly
@rr7firefly 2 жыл бұрын
@@ruthlessruth4197 I want to thank you for your deep insight. Coincidentally, last night I had a nightmare about a time in my early life that was very difficult. In the dream I was alone, looking for a way out of my distress. I went from place to place, lost in a strange set of human landscapes. I knew deep inside that there was a way out of the mess -- I just had to find it. My suffering was internal yet it was keeping me from being all that I could be. The cause of the suffering was an authority figure who was filling my head with the reality of inherent human evil. By extension that meant me. I realized at the end that there were people who could help me find a way to resolve this crisis. I just had to get to them. // In the case of art and artists, I think that they should lead people to the truth and if it is horrible they should point people to a better place, solutions that lie beyond the problems. Nothing unrealistically optimistic but genuinely in the direction of real salvation. Healing can be a long process.
@ruthlessruth4197
@ruthlessruth4197 2 жыл бұрын
@@rr7firefly wow, thank you so much for sharing! That's a very interesting dream! Also an interesting perspective on the role of artists-- my own feeling is that artists *can* take on a guiding, directive or visionary role. I also have been blessed just as much by art that locates me/us accurately. That paints a picture of where we are, and plays the scene of how it feels. Honestly. and without the dictates of social graces, or the responsibility of having to prop a seemingly grim or dark reality up with future hopes and promises. To find and feel ourselves truly where we are, is a successful piece of art. To me. Not necessarily to guide us - but to find us. From there, many possible things may lead us forward... other artists, other inspirations, our experiences, conversations, the visions in our own heart....
