Apart from admiration for your driving and work, your videos helped me last week down a North Devon country lane when I saw a police car with blue lights flashing behind me. I saw there was a blind bend in front so carried on round and then pulled in for the car to overtake safely. Your commentary, captioned or spoken, is invaluable.

The most impressive part for me is the restraint shown when a vehicle reacts poorly to your presence and hinders your progress. Zen like calmness which I guess helps when you arrive at the incident and have to switch to medic mode.

Evening Chris 👋Great video again! Is there a max speed you are capped to on open sections of Motorway or is it what you can get to safely?
@ChrisMartinEMS
@ChrisMartinEMS 11 ай бұрын
Evening ash, each service and Trust will have a driving policy with a cap, it varies but is loosely either speed limit + 20 or SL+50%. There is some flexibility for those having done advanced courses and can justify a bit more speed based on conditions, vehicle, traffic conditions etc but there is a limit.
@andyalder7910

@@ChrisMartinEMS - when you say "advanced courses", what are the levels - as such - for medical blue light drivers? I know the police have "basic" which can't use many of the exemptions their "standard response" or "advanced" graded drivers can, including blue lights to aid in making progress, but how does it work in your field?

I drive trains and at Reigate there is a level crossing right beside the station. It’s also on the main ambulance route to the M25 Junction 8. Once the barriers are down the crossing stays down until I’ve done my station duties and departed when safe, and so many times I feel so guilty coz I’m holding up ambulances. Can’t help it tho. Another great drive and great video 👍

I always struggle with this. These drivers drive like God would - if he ever had a car, then when they arrive at the scene their heart rate is expected to drop , so they can treat the patients. They must be insanely highly skilled people, and I am completely jealous , or possibly imported from another planet as an NHS slot in (unlikely). Keep up your fantastic work and skill level.

That car forcing you to undertake at 03:57 seemed a bit unnecessary - they could have easily moved left, and would have had plenty of time to move back to the right once you'd passed them. The road wasn't particularly busy.

Some drivers do this. Saw it this morning, I pulled to the left for an ambulance to go past but the car in front seemed to freeze and just stop in their lane. Ambulance had to undertake when all it would have taken was for the car in front to love over to on the left.
@djfearross4144

I think they saw the ambulance too late. Therefore they assumed the ambulance would just zoom past on the inside. I might have done the same in a panic, I don't know but it shows the importance of constantly checking all your mirrors.

why dont you want to make people cross the line? it's an emergency, isnt it? or is it illegal in UK to cross the line even when an ambulance with music is behind you? (It's totally fine in Germany)

@glamourhammer3194 11 ай бұрын
@@robholloway6829- I'm compelled to reply to you with a slight correction - contravening the Highway Code or flat out not following some parts of it doesn't immediately make your driving conduct illegal - hence why there's teminology such as "should not" in their and "must not", with the latter being linked to some legislation. So if it's a "must not" rule, then contravening it is an offence. Despite saying this, its quite possible that somebody's conduct could amount to careless driving, or driving without due care and attention, which indeed would see FPN/points on license/etc.
