During my stay in the Eifel, near the German city of Monschau, I saw two species of redstart: the black redstart (Phoenicurus ochruros) and the common redstart (Phoenicurus phoenicurus). When you see them together, you immediately see that they belong to the same family. And although you sometimes see them in the same biotope, they still live in different areas. The black redstart is a rock bird. It is therefore not surprising that it can be seen on the roofs of homes, churches and industrial estates. Those are rocks to him. The common redstart lives more in deciduous forests, or in hedges with deciduous trees. Both birds are beautiful birds. They are not very shy and that is what makes them so much fun to watch!
