Nothing brings more joy and peace to my heart than seeing a man on a tractor, prepping and planting. Danny, you are a walking, talking, plowing, planting encyclopedia. We're blessed to have you on KZfaq sharing more than a lifetime of experience. Some of the gems you know there is no way someone could figure it out on their own - takes too many lifetimes and decades of experience to figure it out... wisdom passed down over time. Thanks for the difference you're making. Blessings to you and Wanda, may your fields continue to be filled with pollinators and your plates with tasty rewards.

Its a bit of an expense....but its what we had to do to keep the deer out of our garden. On your T posts, set a hot wire at 54" 36" and 18" Then 3 feet out from the T posts set the step in fiberglass posts. Run a hot wire at 36"...Deer see in 2 dimensions so this creates an obstacle they can't negotiate. we used a solar charger...worked great for us.... Now we just need to figure out how to stop the rabbits!

One minute in - yep - deer tracks. We had to build a 5' tall woven wire fence with a barb wire strand a foot above that around our 30x300' garden and our 50x100' garden. I know they could jump it - but so far (5 years) they haven't. We've counted upwards of 25-30 deer at a time in our fields.

Adding a ribbon along the top of the of the deer fence helps deter the deer from jumping the fence. It works best if the ribbon or fence tape is twisted so that it moves better in the breeze. A hot wire along the bottom of the fence will help with animals getting into the corn.

I have just a small back yard garden. 20FT x 40FT. Last year I had trouble with seeds, planted cucumbers , I thought the seeds looked smaller than usual but were a new variety, Planted 2 rows of carrots. The cuke seeds all turned into Gords. The carrots grew what looked like some very thin yellow looking wheat, 2 FT tall with a bushy looking seed head. Called the seed place and they admitted to some quality control issues. Got a $20 voucher. LOL. Now I have to worry how many seed pods from the wheat have gone through my garden to add to this years weeding.

Squirrels are the bane of a small home hobby corn plot. Fortunately our area is small enough I just put row cover over it until the corn gets up a little bit so they ignore it. Are you using those little solar units with the 2 blinking red eyes? We tried them last season after the deer hit our beans. Seamed to work for us, but again it was a much smaller plot.

That’s some pretty ground. I’m 70, and when I was a child I used to visit my granddaddy on his 100 acre farm in Kentucky. His ground never looked that good, but all he could do with the equipment that he had, was to “break” the ground and disc it. There WERE a few mechanisms for towing that I’m not familiar with, but I know he used the disc a lot. He had a BIG ALLIS CHALMERS tractor. The metal seat had rusted places in it that would tear the seat of you pants up😊

The native americans said to look for the maple leaves the size of mouse ears to start planting corn. Some use Moon phases. Others Sunspots. Modern planting you need to make sure the soil temp is higher than 50degF and that you have moisture in the ground with no cold rains coming until the seeds germinate. A cold rain can set corn seed back or even start rotting it in the ground. .. Getting bit by the weather on both ends of early/late ... it's best to plan putting corn in the ground at different intervals as insurance.

Good to see a well worked field and straight rows. Wanda showing all of the deer tracks makes reason for the tapes across the field understandable. Our biggest problem is the 16 striped ground squirrels digging all of the seedlings rite down the row. No matter how big or small your garden or field is, there is always something to watch out for. Enjoyed watching and wishing you a good Danny Corn crop again this year.

I have a sparrow problem & 2 legged 6' weighing about 160-170lb problem. Stole green beans don't think he touched the cukes but, today I've seen him with my gorilla cart. He wanted me to plant cherry bell radish just for him. He owns land and he isn't disabled like me. He's stolen other stuff. I know he hates my 2 almost full grown pups outside. They bark whenever he walks in his yard 3 doors down. He's stopped walking past the house at night but walks the road. Come summer he won't know where I'm sleeping at unless he has night vision goggles
