I also understand that most of you do not have the luxury of lifts so please make sure you secure your vehicle on jack stands before you attempt to even remove your tire. Using your tire iron, loosen the bolts on your vehicle first, then after they are loosened, you can use a jack to to lift your car and and place jack stands underneath. As soon as they are secure on the jack stands, you can then proceed to remove the tires. Your next step would be to remove the cap off of your master cylinder and the video will show you the rest of the steps.

I love working on my car and yes, you're right... I do work on my boyfriend's car because that's not his forte. But in his defense, he cooks for me... the kitchen is like a foreign country to me. A lot of maintenance is really easy and a lot more people (women especially) should learn how to do it. I really appreciate KZfaq videos... they've taught me a lot about my specific vehicle as well as learning from my dad. (Oh, and I totally rock the Summit hat when under the hood!)

Erm no copper grease on the hub face = bad practice Erm no idea of tool names = it's an impact driver, which are bloody handy to have Getting grease/oil on the disc face = bad practice Not greasing the sliding pins = bad practice Doesn't clean the piston face nor caliper face = bad practice & being soo lazy he has to use a power tool to undo the holding bolts = pure laziness But least we all know the disks are zinc plated
@bundysgarage
@bundysgarage 10 жыл бұрын
Just an FYI, you don't need to use the impact driver to install the screws. Those suckers are going to be so tight the next time they do the job. Plus he never described how he changed directions on the impact driver. Just hand tighten those screws, they are put in at the factory just to hold the rotor in place during manufacturing. Also it's a good idea NOT to let the caliber dangle from the brake line, keep it supported or place it on the lower control arm, just don't let it flop around like that.

i should learn to read trough all the comments before posting haha .. my point well made there . and yeah those screws .. dont understand why he put 2 in again .. its not like the wheel will fall off if they break haha .. and the remark he made .. "if you strip a screw its going to be hard to get out" .. ehh no it wont .. 5 mm hole drilled .. 6 mm torx .. knock it in gently .. twist .. voila screw begone !
@BrianSSH
@BrianSSH 9 жыл бұрын
Getting a stripped screw off isn't impossible, but, it's less of a hassle to just not strip the screw. That being said, screw and bolt stripping could always happen no matter what the case is.
@Rusiputki
@Rusiputki 9 жыл бұрын
I was just about to comment that. Tightening those screws like he did is a stupid idea. Mine are finger tight and reality is you don't even need them but it's nice for the rotor to be stationary before you attach the wheel. And yes I've been many times shitting my pants when I had to remove those screws on other people's cars when they started to round off. I had to presoak them in oil and all sort of stuff just to avoid drilling them out.
@Ladosligese
@Ladosligese 9 жыл бұрын
Rusiputki no need to soak em realy .. if stripped ..drill 5 mm hole 2 mm deep .. tap a 6 mm torx into the hole .. and then just screw it out :) easy as pie

yeah i put my slotted rotors on my car the other day and i love them braking is heaps better . i was told if you get a magnifying glass you can see the cracks forming around the holes . ive seen rotors that were slotted and DIMPLED instead of drilled , i think dimpled and slots would be good instead of drilled holes.

Yes! I had the same problem on a friend's 97 Honda Accord I was working on. After running out of ideas about how to deal with it, I decided to put the car back down on the ground after putting the lug nuts back on loosely, I moved the car ever so slightly, very slowly and very carefully, and it did the trick! Try it and let me know how it worked out for you. And remember, do NOT forget to put the lug nuts back on without tightening them, and roll the vehicle very gently, of course!

Impact Screwdriver is what its called. different parts of the country, and other countries call tools by various names. This is a good video for quick reference. I agree, you don't let the caliper hang from the hose, but most shops do. in the older cars, the calipers weight was about twenty Lbs. that could damage the hose, but that caliper is about 3 Lbs. Also Safety Glasses. again that's hit or miss depending where you go. this is a real quick one to watch before you get started, and realize you forgot something. I have personally made many Training vids for aviation, automotive, and marine industry, and we did at least 8 takes to get it right on something this easy. You cant cover everything. example: when you jack up one wheel off the ground, then open a door, you can damage the frame.

@lildude6906
@lildude6906 10 жыл бұрын
Yes, dissipating heat is the purpose for the slotted and cross drilled patterns. However, it is well known that under long-term use the holes will clog and crack the rotor. These holes only dissipate and do not remove brake dust particulates. With maintenance and blowing air through the rotors every once in a while it will aid in preventing future cracking in the rotor surface. Slotted only are far less maintenance and more of a install and forget application.

Female mechanic-? Kudos to you Yvette, glad to see you like working on yer own car, good skill for a woman to have, many guys these days cant even change their own oil. On the brakes, I have had to remove some fluid from the M-cyl. at times, as the pads wear and Id replace fluid to keep the level up its too much sometimes when pushing the cal. pistons back and can overflow. But each case is different - I just installed drilled and slotted rotors om my '03 S10, great deal from Sumit racing.

To Martin Heuts: those calipers are known as ratcheting calipers and there is a little metal box you can buy at auto parts stores that have tabs on the sides of the box. The tabs fit into notches on different makes of cars. They also have 3/8" drive square holes for ratchets and extensions. Mine cost $7.00. Or you can use a pair of needle-nose pliers.

That brake reservoir is eventually going to spill over unless you suction a lot of the fluid out before compressing the pistons. Also, I like to crack open the bleeder screws then compress the piston so you're not sending dirty fluid from the piston up the line. But most of the time I will rebleed the lines with new fluid after doing a brake job using a pressure bleeder.

All those holes in you disc reduce the effective surface, increase wear of the pads, then to form cracks when heated often and the zinc on the braking surface itself will get into the pads and make them less effective for a pretty long while (kind of like glazing).

Notice the groove machined at the base of the rotor hat. Measure the depth of the groove then subtract from the thickness of the rotor. The thickness of the metal at the thinnest point (at groove) is insanely unsafe. Assuming the rotor is ventilated. Is grease unsafe?
