OCD AT THERAPY

We went to occupational therapy and Rafael had an OCD meltdown about not drawing something correctly. The therapist is very good and knows how to deal with it and redirected the situation brilliantly. Rafael has an issue with not drawing or writing perfectly so I have not pushed him to do it. It is always a struggle with him, so we don't spend too much time on that when we do homeschool. I thought his OCD was getting better because we have gone through so much with his food rituals, the elevator ritual, the car ritual, and the bedtime ritual, but I realized today he still very much has OCD and there are still things we need to work on, as they show themselves. OCD is very much like a silent virus or parasite that latches on and when you try to kill it one area, it moves to another. He also had an issue with me not following him down a ramp and he HAD to have me go down the same ramp as him, directly behind him. I didn't. He had a meltdown all day long.

Andrea used to live in Florida, until she met Hadar on World of Warcraft. In 2009, Hadar met Andrea in real life, in Israel. They were married April 13, 2010 in the states. Andrea moved to Israel in July of that same year and has been there ever since. Baby Rafael was born November 14, 2012. Baby Abigail was born July 31, 2016 in Beer Sheva, Israel. They film their life every day to show Andrea's family members back in FL. Andrea is on a mission to lose the baby weight, which is over 100 pounds. Hadar is a soldier in the Air Force in Israel. They currently live in military housing in Eilat, Israel. They are fun loving and happy most of the time. Not every day is good, but this is their reality!
About our baby boy: Rafael was diagnosed with OCD and High Functioning Autism, also known as Aspergers syndrome, at three years old. His interests right now are cars and trucks, and he loves all toys, but especially cars and trucks! He could literally play with these toys all day long. His bedroom is a car and truck theme. Maybe one day he will have his own toy review channel! We have a few videos of Rafael so you can understand his diagnosis better:

My 3 year old has been having OCD tendencies since 1-2 years old. I noticed because I also have struggled with it since a child, but his is much worse than mine. I have been an absolute mess watching him look so helpless when things aren’t “perfect”… even the coloring just as you showed here. He is the most intelligent little boy and he reminds me of your son in that. You are an inspiration with your patience and dedication. Thank you so much for sharing these

I remember when I was little, my brother went to one of those therapy rooms and I came along because I was too young to stay home alone, and my dad was at work. I don't exactly remember what tests they did, but I remember him bouncing on a ball, and running and walking up and down the ramp.

I'm glad he's getting help. I'm 32 and I was told I have ocd, autism and possibly ADD. I live in the UK and the waiting list for the in depth assessments at present is up to 8 years. It's so stupid. I'm going to be claiming a pension before I get diagnosed. But iv exhausted all the therapy they can offer me without a diagnosis. It's dumb because they think I'm being uncooperative so they say the sessions of therapy they offer don't work. I need to see someone who specialises in autism. But I can't see them without getting the diagnosis. I was given a basic pre assessment and scored more or less maximum for the diagnoses but I have to wait years or win the lottery and go private!

It was wonderful for my two littlest kids. They slept it in and were able to put themselves to bed by crawling in and getting inside themselves. It really helped their independence as little ones, and it was the safest method for us, as it allowed us to travel and not interrupt their sleep - they kept the same bed everywhere. We like the Montessori school method of sleeping, where there is a bed on the floor and the child is able to get in it by themselves and go to sleep. We didn't have the house for it though, or the room, so we decided on the tent. It was wonderful - grandparents loved it as well. I left a link for it in the description box. Highly recommended.

Didn't even know that existed And my parents are very busy, my dad is a pilot and my mom works as a flight attendant so this will solve a lot of problems!

Hey guys maybe I don't know much about Autism, but the lovely boy yes for sure has OCD, but now does he have Autism?? I mean I was diagnosed as a child with things I didn't have so..I'm just wondering that's all. I also seen footage of the boy a bit older an wow he seems like such a bright young man. So maybe someone can school me or give me advice.

Yes, my kids are very bright. They do have autism and also OCD though. My son has worked on his OCD for years now and still has it, but it's being very controlled. Not just with help from us, but also he realizes when he's starting to do things that could become rituals and have no meaning except for to prevent 'something bad' from happening. He is able to communicate to us why he does things and knows its irrational to do these things and we work on it together. He's very intelligent and he asks a lot of questions. He is very limited only in the subjects that he wants to talk about, but he is also getting therapy for this to learn how to hold conversations with people without talking about one of 3 subjects only. Usually when you are diagnosed with Autism, there is almost always another diagnosis that comes with that. It could be O.D.D., ADHD, OCD, tourettes, etc, etc,. My two youngest have OCD and my eldest believes he has OCD but has never sought treatment for it, but can vouch for him that he has it as well. All three of my kids have different types of OCD and all are also diagnosed with ASD. If they still used this terminology, they would be diagnosed with Aspergers syndrome on the autism spectrum, but they got rid of Aspie diagnosis.

Those aren't mutually exclusive Autism is a spectrum, meaning whatever stereotype you have in mind doesn't necessarily apply to this boy. Same goes for OCD which doesn't present the same exact way in every person who has it
