In therapy I use a combination of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Systems Theory, positive psychology, and a bio-psycho-social approach to treating mental illness and other challenges we all face in life. The ideas from my videos are frequently adapted from multiple sources. Many of them come from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, especially the work of Steven Hayes, Jason Luoma, and Russ Harris. The sections on stress and the mind-body connection derive from the work of Stephen Porges (the Polyvagal theory), Peter Levine (Somatic Experiencing) Francine Shapiro (EMDR), and Bessel Van Der Kolk. I also rely heavily on the work of the Arbinger institute for my overall understanding of our ability to choose our life's direction.
And deeper than all of that, the Gospel of Jesus Christ orients my personal worldview and sense of security, peace, hope, and love www.churchofje...

Someone once taught me to say to myself "well, that would suck". It actually helped a LOT! When I have an intrusive thought like what if I drop my newborn niece. Rather than not hold her I would just say "that would suck" as a way to start taking the power out of the thought while still being honest. Eventually, I was able to not respond to the thoughts at all. I just let them pass now and I remind myself most everyone has these thoughts I just have a habit of staring at them.

This was really helpful and nice to watch. OCD has so many different types and can look so different for different people. I feel many don’t dive deeper and tend to talk about the kinds that are more known vs the many the complexities of the illness. Need for endless reassurance, paranoias, perfectionism that keeps you in a loop, fears that keep you stuck, sometimes not knowing what’s your thoughts and paranoias vs real life, existential crisis, chronic worry, ruminating thoughts and fears, needing things a certain way to where it can be suffocating, intrusive thoughts, needing to replay moments and thoughts and conversations before being able to move on. There’s so much more! Exposure therapy has never ever helped my social anxiety personally and made it worse, but maybe it would help my OCD. Also, to those who get upset about religion being brought up, sorry, but the fact is for many of us it has destroyed us and worsened our mental illnesses. Just is what it is. Religions have a dark side, some more than others, and they can be a passive trigger.

My intrusive thought, when ocd is rampant, causes me many panic attacks and anxiety. I’m currently struggling with that. But I’ve learn to live with being uncomfortable.

Regarding what Kat said- I don't think constant verbal chatter in our heads "has to happen in order for us to be able to function". I function better the less chatter there is in my head.

I have OCD. I dont mind people misusing the reference as much as I do how limited affordable treatment is for a disorder that has a 2 percent prevailance amongst the greater population.

I'm a trainee psychologist, and I had OCD. We never choose our thoughts, but we can choose how to react to them. CBT is very helpful, and the cure is desensitisation. Once the symptoms subside the diagnosis, no longer stands.

Please help me I am aware of my eyes, not just blinking but observing them and noticing them and the redness. Focusing on them worries me and plunges me into a whirlpool of ocd . When I try to accept the situation, thoughts come to me that I will harm myself, possibly by pressing on my eyes and affecting their function, and I fear from blindness. Is this considered as a type of sensorimotor ocd what should I do please help me 😢😢

er. not to be THAT person but ERP means something very different in some circles online. (dont ask how i know) :' D for the people like me who completely forgot what the abbreviation meant by the end: Exposure and Response Prevention.👍 although i do imagine RP could technically be a method of exposure therapy. xD

Thank you so much for this video! Do you have suggestions for treatment for OCD regarding planning and organising? I check my to do lists and some apps and stuff way, way to often and too long and I often think I haven't done it well enough, must've missed something, don't have a good overview, don't have control. What can I do as exposure therapy or to just make it easier on myself somehow until I find a therapist? Trying to not check my lists when I feel like I don't have the overview makes me feel so restless but checking them is exhausting and time consuming.

Thank you for the informative video on OCD treatment. My son has had severe OCD issues for years now. I do not really like using medication but Sertraline -Zoloft has helped a lot with his improvement. I believe he has Pans or Pandas. Brain Surgeon & neurologists have mentioned evidence of inflammation in my son Andrew's brain Below is the link to the story of my son Andrew. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aqyhY5egxLrJdnk.htmlsi=LTasxBshMoy6cb7e
