I swear to God, Ocean's Twelve is one of the most stylish and experimental genre films I've ever seen. It has the best cinematography (that "Peter Andrews" fella sure has a career ahead of him!), music (David Holmes is THE MAN), and the most deliriously convoluted yet aggressively entertaining plots ever. Best of the franchise, without question.

@@SchulzEricT Dude, there's SO much to pick apart in Twelve. I adore how ridiculous it is as a plot and on a storyline level. Then the visuals are so wild and interesting that it's wild to me that WB gave Soderbergh $55 million to make what's basically an experimental heist film. I seriously wish there was a Criterion of the trilogy with a focus in the special features on the cinematography and editing in particular for each film, but Twelve mainly. So many unbelievably unique shots and styles and compositions that are a sight to behold.

The Ocean trilogy is a fun series to watch. 11 is the best, 12 got a lot of hate cause it tried to do something different but I recently rewatched it and thoroughly enjoyed it, 13 is unapologetically over the top and I love it. Hoping you react to those in the future.

because on a live pit floor in a casino, a blackout would mean people would/could grab loose chips, grab loose cash, grab cards, essentially steal tons of money thats loosely flowing on the pit floor. Hence, instant chaos if a casino floor goes black, everyone becomes a thief for 30 seconds.

Lord, I love your smile when you're amused. 🙂 BTW, Elliot Gould, the actor you like so much playing Rubin, was in the original film of MASH (1970). While that film is flawed from our perspective (in particular, its gender politics are terrible), it is one of the great antiwar comedies, and Gould is particularly fine in it. Also -- the musical piece at the end of the last Las Vegas sequence was Debussy's "Claire de Lune" -- classical, not jazz. :)

Nobody thought that this "Rat Pack" classic could be revamped into greatness. I saw the 1960's original before the remake came out. Also it re-established the 'Heist Comedy' that the original had first introduced. Great cast. One of the best ensembles ever. They all had such a good time working together. Going by the 'behind the scenes' footage and interviews. The most recent installment was the spinoff, Ocean's 8 (2018) and it was unexpectedly good. But work your way through Ocean's 12 & 13 first. RIP to the legends, Bernie Mac (Frank Catton), Carl Reiner (Saul Bloom) and Jerry Weintraub (lead producer of the Ocean's Trilogy, 2001-2007).

Honestly, though, as a CSI, i find the fact that they just walked out with over $160 million as the most implausible portion of the movie. a stack of 1000 $100 bills weighs exactly 1Kilogram. So, $100,000 is 2.2 pounds. Multiply that by the amount of money they stole and that's 1.6 TONS, 3,520 POUNDS. 11 of them wouldn't be enough to just carry it out of the casino vault.

I watched this in the theaters years ago, and it's become one of my go-to movies to have on in the background whenever I'm working on something. The DVD version has a great director's commentary track, and there are all kinds of interesting details. Don Cheadle is uncredited due to a disagreement over billing; he wanted either to be among the above title billings, or none at all. He got the latter. Brad Pit was constantly snacking in between takes, so it eventually became part of Rusty's character. Hence why he's always eating. He ate 40 shrimp just for the Tess intro scene due to how many takes it took. The producer was friends with the owner of the Bellagio, which is why they were allowed to film and stay there. The ending group scene at the fountain was the last scene they filmed, and was mostly improvised; the instructions were for Brad Pitt to leave first, and for Carl Reiner to leave last. The others just walked away when it felt natural. In fact, the fountain scene only came about when the director couldn't figure out how to get the group to separate after the heist, and just happened to be leaning on the fountain railing as he was thinking. There are plenty of other aspects worth looking into.

The one thing that irks me out about this movie is the weight of 150 million dollars, which is the amount they took from the casino. Even if I were to give the movie the most charitable circumstances, meaning that the 150m are entirely made out of $100 bills, and that all 11 of them were there to carry it, the weight of the loot should be about 1500kg, or 3,300 pounds.. Each person would have to carry 300 pounds out of the casino, 150 on each hand.. so how?
