Love this stuff but they need to realise black and white cabinets don't fit in all homes some wood effect would be a decent change tbh.

Umm you do realise that overflow design is mean to have water just trickling down the emergency overflow, so you have it setup wrong? The water is meant to be 'just' trickling down the emergency pipe as this is how it skims the water surface and more importantly sets the water height in the overflow (so there is no sound from the overflow grate), it is also how you can tell if the sump/tank combo is designed/plumbed correct as both overflow pipes should be going into mechanical filtration. Once you correct the water height, It will also make it easier to tune with the gate valve as you can visually tune it based on looking at the emergency overflow (or replace a section of the emergency overflow pipe in the cabinet with clear PVC pipe so you can view from inside the cabinet).

Nice info on the bactoballs. How long do they last you think? Finally water in the tank! You going to add fish soon during the cycle or no?
