A kayak camping and fishing trip on the Ocklawaha River in Florida for three days and two nights with friends and family. We all caught fish, ate good, and my dad tries out jigger fishing for the first time.

Enjoyed watching your float trip. Was something I always wanted to do, but never got a round to it. Forgetting that time has a way of catching up with us. Now not likely I'll make the trip. Thankful to have the opportunity to see others. Thank you for sharing.

That trip and the year before almost kicked my butt. It was near 100 degrees and the humidity was very high with our camp being in the swamp. I spent a lot of time during the day just sitting in the river to keep cool. I hope to be able to keep it up for a while as I have a young son that will soon be going with me. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Brings back memories , Put in at the Silver River and the Ocklawaha then drift down stream. Stop at Osceola Landing and hang the hammock. Spend a couple days there and then drift on down about 2 miles past the county park and pull off to the left at the campsite. Spend a few days there and then on down the river to the outpost and the vehicle. A group of us would make the trip every year for several years. One time we stopped at the county park ( Gores Landing ) and camped. For something different that night we phoned in a Pizza Order at Eurika , Fl and had it delivered. Later that night one of the guys woke up and had to visit mother nature. As he crawled out of his tent and stood up he was almost nose to nose with a Florida Black Bear. We never found out which was to most scared since the Bear put it in high gear and made his own path threw the woods. Our guy was shaken but we never got to ask the Bear how he felt. i'd guess it might of been about even.

Sounds like you have had many adventures on that river. I too have stayed at that river campsite many times where the creek meets the river and caught many bass and panfish along the route. Never knew it is called Osceola Landing. I also have stayed at the other campsite south of the rope swing with the high banks. I never had any run-ins with bears but saw a few monkeys. I usually launch at Silver River and take out at Gore's. I have only once paddled from Gore's to the canoe outpost. Thanks for watching my video and leaving your comment.

This brought back memories, I did an ooutward bound canoe trip for 9 days and we started at gores landing and went all the way past rodman dam and into that bigger river that I forgot the name of.

I'm glad you liked it. The larger river you mentioned is the St. John's River. On this trip we launched about 10miles upriver from Gore's near Silver Springs and we camped two nights at the same site. I'm going back next month with my family to do another trip on the same route. I'm really looking forward to it. Thanks for watching and commenting!

It was very nice and the fishing was good. The river level was 33.45' when I went at the very end of July. A year before in August, the river was at 38' and was fast and muddy. Not good for fishing. Today the reading was 33.48. If you're going soon it should still be nice.

are you at a regular campsite or just a place you picked out?can a person camp anywhere along the river?i want to do this
@John-Sherwood-W4JFS7 жыл бұрын
It is along the riverbank. Some places have signs saying no camping. The places I stay are established sites along the river on national forest land. They are not maintained by the forest service and are first come first served. Here is a map from a local canoe outpost. The triangles are campsites on the river: www.outpostresort.com/rivermapview.html

Great video. Wife and I with a few friends have been talking about doing this but could find where to camp. Thank you for the link

Where is that camp at
@John-Sherwood-W4JFS Жыл бұрын
Located about 7 miles down river between Hwy 40 and Gore’s Landing on the east side. If you reach the “High Bluffs” rope swing, it’s the next camp past that.
