ANNOUNCEMENT FOR EVERY OWNER OF ANY SAMPLER! :
It's the first sampler-only jam based on our sample exchange idea. Join us! Read on:
(The video starts with the initial samples only allowed to use for this jam along with sampler's effects only).
We agreed the following way:
WHAT:
A friend gives me a sample pack of 7 that consists of one shots (maybe loops, as you wish) that are theoretically enough to record a little jam using only those sound source files and only a sampler and its effects etc (within the box). DAW post-processing frequency wise and/or external mastering is no prob.
I also give them a pack I prepared. (BTW I've got no clue what I have received).
In a few days we exchange the results. Like this one.
And here is my friend's result:
• Jam On Elektron Digita...
No rush.
(Anytime)
No pressure.
(NO RULES except you are totally limited to the given pack and your sampler(s) with now external effects and sound sources. You may craft frequencies in DAW (in case of multi track recording) and master else if you wish.
Use all 7 files or one file 7 times, whatever. If you need one kick and one bass and you want to be sure you have them, just ask your mate to include those. If you absolutely hate vocals or else, ask not to include this.
(!) BUT if you already received your pack, please respect your packer's time and don't ask for updates and/or replacements. We do want people to have fun with no pressure. AND I'm sure you'll get some useful experience from using samples you didn't want, too).
No limits.
(You are free to simply play a sequence you've made or jam for hours :-) You may make house from acid samples and vice versa. Even a video and direct line-in recording is not a must, although we (and I believe a person who gave you their pack) really appreciate if you can make it this way.
No offense.
(This is NOT a competition - we just help each other learn how to make sounds and hopefully eventually MUSIC :-)
Maybe if we get lucky to gather a lot of people sometime later, we could arrange some additional challenges and nuances for those who are interested. Got a few ideas already ;)
No judging.
(This is NOT a place to show off what losers people are compared to your skills. Even if so, please respect your sample packer. AND moreover, we'd really love to hear our files crafted within samplers by professionals :-)
WHY:
This appears to be really inspirational, interesting, and fun for us. Cuz some might be tired from their libraries. Some (even unaware) are tired from their endless DAW possibilities.
It gets boring.
I am somewhat new to my sampler, and I realize I now start using it in ways I wouldn't use it if I picked my samples myself. Who knows when I would witness how a door groan transforms into a controllable melodic synth sequence.
Moreover, I get curious and look forward to hear how my initial samples I've collected for another person sound eventually.
HOW:
We could make a FB page for this, to share packs and results with each other. I guess hash tagging your packs and things (ideally with your FB names or so). You can just drop a line in the comments if you're in, and we'll give you a link when we figure out how not to mess things up if we see a sudden audience increase (yep, in my dreams :D)
Cheers,
(A big thank YOU, whoever you are mate, for reading this content. Really appreciate! If you're in, this text is written not in vain :D
