@@tulle7358 've had over fifty years of garden tours some of them reaching 1,500 people in a day. So I've been very successful. Now the cities are frowning on garden tours, they don't like the parking issues and they don't want that many people in houses cuz the neighbors complain. Also we've got major issues because of the drought, a lot of the hey and pumpkins and squashes get eaten up by the wildlife at night, and then we also have a lot of homeless, and they either burns the stray bales and burn it, or they steal bales of hay, to make a nest to sleep on the hay down the street. So it's very hard to put any of these type of scenes up anymore. I do have a nice nativity scene but that has to be put on the top of the roof, and that's a big job to do when you have a tile roof, and when the winds blow in the winter time you have to really chain everything down. It's not like yesteryears when everything was safe outside. I used to purchase a lot of Boys Town wreaths, the I used to have a lot of fruits and nuts attached to the wreaths, but the animals climb up the doors on top of the tables and eat them up. The country sites are so Barren because of the fires and drought, they're coming into our personal private areas to eat anything they can including including electrical wires under the cars. When we become Diversified neighborhoods, not every nationality enjoys having The Street open for a private garden tour at a house and I can understand that they feel the invasion of their privacy. even back here swimming pools are being removed because of the drought issue in the price of water is very expensive. Times are changing and these couple in Oregon are just lucky The drought has not hit them up there and the wildlife is still pretty tame and not eating everything they grow. even if I plant tulips or any kind of flower bulbs I have to package them in real tight steel mesh boxes, so the Ground moles won't eat them before they even sprout. I think they're called Norwegian moles. they sure are fast runners. I know one year I caught my neighborhood teenagers, taking the pumpkins From my yard and throwing them up against the block wall so they busted out all over the place. And the parents said no big deal it's your loss not ours. I know the fish and game have to continuously in the winter and spring months, flood control staffers, have to clean out the river beds and flood controls, so many people have thrown pumpkins in there They grow like Wild Ivy everywhere and clogged up the waterways.

@@tulle7358 have you ever thought maybe they don't know too much about azaleas and Camellias and b r o a m a i d s so we can add some seeds in their ears. It can't hurt to offer suggestions the way you're barking and crying, it's none of our business. I don't think her husband is horticulture compared to her, so she has to carry the load all by herself and maybe some suggestions May plant some seeds for future usage. At old phrase, we share and we learn as a group not as an individual. We live in a society where we're tribal, and we learn from one another, it sounds like you may be happier living as a monk. If I'm not mistaken I think one time her husband said that his background is in Ministry, not in horticulture oh, so I think it's helpful if we plant some ideas in her. I know his wife sure has educated me out a lot of things even though I do have an MBA

A fun fact on Gomphocarpus and other MW plants ... it has an heroic place in American history. It was used as a kapok substitute during WWII. The floss, white fluff, harvested from two bags of pods would fill one life jacket. The floss was also used to line flight suits. Please let the aphids have their feast, if left alone, other more 'friendly' bugs will come and take care of them. Which is great for a healthy garden!!

I started looking to see if someone had already commented about this when Laura was talking about the fluff. Such a neat fact and history. I also agree with you about leaving the aphids. We started growing a few types of milkweed in our Texas garden this year to attract the Monarchs, and we have watched the lifecycles of so many little creatures because of the aphids. So many different types of ladybugs, hoverflies, and lacewing feed on the aphids.

@@TheCraftedCloset Yes! It's tough to be patient while the 'good' bugs take care of business, but they always do!! For some it's much easier to just spray something, but then you run the risk of harming all the good insects.

I wait for these tours then take notes on what I’m going to plant next year. Seeing how plants perform is priceless. Unfortunately the growers in my area aren’t smart enough to coordinate with a channel with over a million followers. Not very smart. Ordering on line is boring. Not even close to a my annual fun day at the nursery, spending more money than I do at Christmas. Hope growers wise up. On a more positive note, thank you two for giving me the inspiration to garden. It’s truly changed my life. And now my husband too. His parents treated gardening as punishment, but you have healed that wound and now he loves the joy of gardening. You are a blessing in a chaotic world. Again, thank you.

Carol here from the UK. I very much enjoy watching Garden Answer, I find it inspirational and you are such a pleasant person to watch. Having watched your Autumn garden tour (garden looking lovely by the way), I thought what a shame it was to see all those rows and rows of cut flowers not being cut. I know you don't want to sell them and I perfectly understand that, growing flowers to sell is whole other business in itself and that is not what your business is about. So, two ideas came to me: 1) you put the word out say once a fortnight or once a month that you are having a pick your own in the cut flower garden and put an honesty box out and any proceeds you donate to charity or 2) Instead of having rows and rows of cut flowers, flower farm fashion a la Floret you could design a cut flower garden where the flowers are planted in aesthetically shaped flowerbeds and walkways which would still provide plenty of flowers for arranging with but any that weren't picked would continue to enhance the space and look like they belonged there and not like they needed to be picked. Think what fun Aaron would have taking aerial photos with his drone😊 All the best Carol

Your garden is so beautiful! I have recently, since COVID actually, have really been into gardening and learning what grows and doesn't grow in my zone 7. Earlier this summer I rescued two Truffula Gomphrena plants that were dying on the clearance rack at my local Lowe's. Because of your videos and seeing the Gomphrenas I snatched them up and planted them in my small bed around my mailbox. They have grown so much and I am so proud of them! Thank you so much for unknowingly giving me all the confidence to believe I can grow amazing things. You are the best!

So endearing how Laura worries about the tours being too long! This channel has the perfect mix of longer videos, @15 minute videos, highlights, inside/outside ideas, creative ideas, practical ideas, and loads more! Some card making videos and podcasts go 75 minutes to a few hours!!! Garden Answer, you have the perfect mix!!!

Lots of amazing changes coming your way! The larger lawn and buried utilities is going to look awesome! So hate to think about your beautiful cut flowers going away due to the cold weather, I’m not even ready for mine to leave. 😕 You should harvest the sunflowers and hang the seed heads round your property for the birds all winter. Bet your chickens love those seed heads too. Mini tours would be incredibly informative, love the garden tours, but they leave me wanting to spend more time in each area.

We call that cat behavior “licking and kicking” they start out with a grooming ( the licking ) then they start playing (kicking)! Beautiful garden as always. I learn so much from you! Thanks for sharing your garden and your family with us.

I’d really like to see your raised beds in back of the barn. Are the hops still going crazy? I just love long garden tours! What success you’ve had this year. Your new land did incredible! THOSE FLOWERS! Oh my!! I know I’m missing sweet Benjamin, I just love his take on things. I loved when he smelled the gladiolus and closed his eyes like he was in so much love with the fragrance. I just can’t wait to see him with his new baby sister! He’s going to be such a great big brother♥️🤍

I'm a really big fan of cottage style gardens that look more colorful and a little wild so I especially appreciate the little area at the end of the "moon garden" just outside of the vegetable garden. Beautiful!

It's funny how much a region's ecology can affect the perception of beauty, like with your Virginia creeper and agapanthus. When we bought our first house last year i started watching your videos every single night. Inspired i bought three Silver Bush and began planting my first garden bed. Later I looked it up and discovered it's a variety of bindweed (which isn't invasive here)!!! I can only imagine it would pain you to read this, if you ever saw this comment. I recall you planted lantana once, which smothers our local National Parks here, and I winced. I'm considering pulling the Silver bush through loyalty to you and your channel 😅!

I agree, we have blue bachelor buttons coming up allover the yard every year. I just mow them down while others plant them. As for the Silver bush, I think Laura would say, if you like it leave it.

In my area Lantanas are used EVERYWHERE... because it's so hot and dry their growth is kept in check, I've read others in the comments say that they are invasive in their areas especially near a consistent water source.

You have such a good and kind heart. I just love how some projects may shift around because of wanting to spread your kindness beyond your home. I find it's the best place to be. I enjoy my home so much more knowing I can share with others. My grandma's biggest joy in life was to do things to make others feel special. Like you've said before "Romance the Ordinary"!
