@@jet_set8648 Myself, I don't fret over consequences I have no control over. Ochette didn't force the other one to attack her and run away. As they say. Responsible, but not guilty. Ochette did no wrong.

The cool part is, I completely predicted that the story would end this way. But between the amazing soundtrack, voice acting and sprite work, I fell in love with Ochette's story anyway

It's just a rite I assume to choose one companion. The other probably lives a normal life, except in this case of course. The one you don't pick isn't supposed to get corrupted and run away I assume...

Ok, i think this boss surprised me the most with its gimmick. Different party members attributes applied to the boss? How cool is that? This was my 7th final boss i foight. With Hikari being the last one. So i deliberately took my weakest party of agena, temenos, and throne. And if was fun as hell. This game is so neat.

I think it wants you to use Ochette's abating orb on it to keep the buffs away. Neat mechanic. Nice game

I really like how this version starts by just raising the pitch of the main theme. Really gives the sense that you’re rising to a challenge.

Pokemon : "Gary will pick the pokemon that counters the pokemon you choose but you'll probabbly find a better pokemon to trash him" Octopath : "The animal you didnt pick will literally become your final boss and youre gonna need a full party to stand a chance without overleveling"

A harder line for this fight could have been this: Ochette: "I'm sorry..." Lajackal or Malamaowl: *growls in suffering* Ochette:"...But I'll promise this will be quick......So hit me with all that you got!(took inspiration from Final Fantasy X final boss, but it's not a bad quote, isn't?)

The one thing… the only thing… that would have saved this animal, would have resulted in the downfall of the other. As you defeat the abomination that has become of your non-chosen companion, you feel sorrow for what has happened. Even then, it must end there. The Journey for Legends Ends now.

Out of the eight character final bosses, this was in my opinion the most difficult. Partially because Ochette was my main character and thus I did her finale first and, holy fuck this thing is strong. It's kinda like starting with H'aanit and going straight for Redeye lol, shit's hard. But the main thing is simply that this guy _HEALS_ between phases, on top of getting a bunch of other buffs constantly, every turn, until he just overwhelms you (At least, the jackal does. I picked Mahina so I dunno what her fight is like), and he's the only Journey's End boss to do so. All the other bosses I kinda just annihilated in the first phase, either with Hikari or Osvald's LPs (100k HP doesn't mean anything when you can do 120k in one attack! lol), and when they phase transition, they don't heal. They have these grandiose transitions and the phases honestly look really intimidating, but they still have 1 HP leftover. They don't heal lol. I couldn't tell you what _any_ of the other final boss second phases are like 'cause I, skipped them. All of them. Ochette's final boss is the only fight in the game outside of some of the more ridiculous optional fights (looking at you, LiterallyCthulu) that I game over'ed to and had to retry, and for that he earned my respect lol.

I have to assume they are about equal, because likewise the beast companion boss fight against the corrupted owl was, without question, the hardest fight in the entire game not including Galdera. I didn't even come close to struggling against any boss in the game except this one, which I got utterly wrecked by the first time I tried to fight it. Like, it went from "these bosses aren't remotely challenging" to "How is it even possible to beat this thing?" I'm exaggerating a bit for emphasis, but that's how massive the spike in difficulty felt encountering this thing. I beat it on my second try, but holy crap the first attempt was damn near impossible compared to the other fights.

I was very overleveled for most of the final bosses ( A single Lionheart Axe from Hikari brought them down easily) but even with my advantage in levels Ochette and Agnea's bosses I was not prepared for. Very nearly wiped on the Lajackal, scoring the last hit with only Hikari left alive. Dolcinea was the only one who actually wiped me though. I was not prepared for her charms.

Me too because I picked Osvald as the party leader so I didn't really need more magical abilities and I think most Osvlad users did the same

Not to mention, why that unchosen partner was shrouded in darkness so quickly. Like, couldn’t we have seen a spell come in through the window, or have them leave the area and get kidnapped by a cloaked figure instead?

I believe that the first instance of darkness inside your non-chosen companion is it’s first taste of the darkness of humanity. In the final chapter of this tale, Ochette tells numerous times of smelling the distinct scent of “Hatred”. Scarred from humanity and the evil doings that follow it but it all first started when you didn’t choose that animal as a companion. In some way, it could have been hatred or the more tame beginnings, jealousy. Rejection, a hit, and then a run away, possibly feeling the sadness from the rejection. It would be a fitting start since all the animals would be little, including Ochette, so it’s childish beginnings that started it all. At least that’s what I try to believe it as other than “you didn’t choose the other, now it’s evil.”

@@omnicloud6663would have been better if in every chapter you meet petrichor and have to provoke her so you can progress through story, it will be like the pokemon story where you have to fight your rival
