I'm hearing both sides on this. Some say it works some say it doesn't. I'm wondering if it affects the input shaper. I'd hate to lose that.

@awilliams1701 its flaky. Some times it doesn't connect right away. Also, it doesn't trigger the print mode in the LCD, and it doesn't handle filament runout signals either. With that said, it works. It does stream the code, and I use it because it's good enough for me.

Thanks Chris. This must be a newer plugin, cause I looked for this a while back when I lost a print that was running for quite a few hours (more than 1 day). So kudos to those developers...

This is such an excellent video! I appreciate you sharing this knowledge with us! Before I had to do a long process of measuring the print when it failed, rewrite the G-code and manually move the Z axis, this is so much easier and faster. Thank you very much!

I'm impressed with the prusa mk4 recovery. I have full backup on my mk3. My mk4 wasn't when I was using it and I had a 2-3 hour power failure. It resumed and there was only a minor color change in the affected area. It's hard to find. My back up runs a while. I had a 4 hour power failure in the middle of the night. After 2 hours of it beeping I turned it off. To be fair I wasn't printing so there was no heat, but it had a lot of battery left. I would think I could get at least a few hours even with heat on. I did get the biggest UPS I could find.

The MK4 does seem to recover very well. A lot of printers seem to be getting a lot better at this now a days.

This was good 👍 On many (low-cost) printers, power-loss detection leaves small blobs when printing from SD card. I had no idea power-loss could be done *with* OctoPrint, thought it's always a lost case (or copy to SD and start print from there, with blobs)..

This becomes more important for larger prints or a lot of small items printed at once. Your point about the bed cooling is very important, if the items don't stay put it is a waste of time

The pi could also monitor the UPS to do a graceful shutdown. I know this is tangential to this video but how is the OctoPrint-NUT plugin related to the power fail recovery ?
@nobodytoyou4887

I would like to see this as well, I happen to have my printer and Pi on a decently large UPS (APC 1500VA unit). Would love to have it so it keeps going till the UPS is down to like 10-15% runtime, then it issues a pause to the printer moving the head enough to not leave it on the part (say like up another 10mm). then make the recovery file based on known good data and make the PI gracefully shut down.

Will this plugin not destroy SD cards by constantly writing to them to keep track of print progress? Apparently that is a problem for the built in "power loss recovery" features like in Marlin.
@ChrisRiley
@ChrisRiley 3 ай бұрын
Yes, you would have a lot more writes, but it would take a long time to affect the card.

@@edmarfilho2000 I took a look at this, if the recover file is running a G28 X Y, which it should be, you won't need any Z compensation. So you should be able to set it to zero.
