Ocular rosacea (roe-ZAY-she-uh) is inflammation that causes redness, burning and itching of the eyes. It often develops in people who have rosacea, a chronic skin condition that affects the face. Sometimes ocular (eye) rosacea is the first sign that you may later develop the facial type. #dryeyedrops #dryeyedisease #dryeyes #dryeyesyndrome #dryeyestreatment #dryeyetreatment #dryeye #dryeyedoc

Ocular rosacea primarily affects adults between the ages of 30 and 50. It seems to develop in people who tend to blush and flush easily. There's no cure for ocular rosacea, but medications and a good eye care routine can help control the signs and symptoms.
What is the main cause of ocular rosacea?
Signs and symptoms of ocular rosacea can precede the skin symptoms of rosacea, develop at the same time, develop later or occur on their own. Signs and symptoms of ocular rosacea may include:
Red, burning, itchy or watering eyes
Dry eyes
Grittiness or the feeling of having a foreign body in the eye or eyes
Blurred vision
Sensitivity to light (photophobia)
Dilated small blood vessels on the white part of the eye that are visible when you look in a mirror
Red, swollen eyelids
Recurrent eye or eyelid infections, such as pink eye (conjunctivitis), blepharitis, sties or chalazia
The severity of ocular rosacea symptoms doesn't always match the severity of skin symptoms.
Some research has also shown a possible link between skin rosacea and Helicobacter pylori bacteria, which is the same bacteria that causes gastrointestinal infections. A number of factors that aggravate or “trigger” skin rosacea can aggravate ocular rosacea, as well.

Is it common for certain skincare products like chemical exfoliants, metrogel, AzA script, sulfur ointment, differin? Restasis hurt so bad it caused a migraine.

is IPL the same as vbeam? Or is IPL for the dry eye/ gritty feeling? I'm getting Vbeam 6/22/23 on my upper eyelids after upper blepharoplasty left very red eyelids with a line of demarcation. The surgery also left me with a gritty feeling in one upper eyelid. The dermatologist said there was something else to treat the dry eye, is that what IPL is? Thanks, Stephanie

Can people with medium or darker skin tones do IPL for their ocular rosacea though? if not, what are their options?

IPL is great for up to Fitzpatrick 4, but darker than that use caution ... Can do a patch test to see how your skin reacts. An alternative is LED light, which is ok on ALL skin types.

yes! it does. my opinion is that IPL packs a bigger punch but I use both together as a rule, i think red light therapy enhances IPL

yes, it would be great to get some recommendations for least irritating mascaras! I stopped using anything on my eyes as it is just too irritating, but occasionally I would love to be able to use makeup

Hey friend! If you're struggling with ocular rosacea, I highly recommend checking out the DermalMD Rosacea Serum. Its natural ingredients like green tea extract and licorice root extract help to soothe and calm the skin, reducing redness and inflammation. Remember to also be mindful of triggers like stress and certain foods. Give the serum a try, and always consult with your dermatologist for personalized advice. Take care!
