In this video we head into the metaverse (sort of) to see how the Facebook/Oculus/Meta Quest 2 VR headset works, from the inside out. It may be a couple years old, but it is still the most popular cordless VR headset on the market, and we need all the practice we can get for the upcoming VR boom.

That's pretty crazy. I hate to say it, but even though Facebook/Meta is taking over the industry (Unfortunately), their acquisition of Oculus has improved the overall VR experience so far. My Quest 2 has taken some pretty serious accidental beatings, so serious respect for the Oculus design team!

@@dbchees3 I had a Rift S and as soon as I had tried my Quest 2 for the first time, I put the Rift S on eBay. The Quest is better in every way except the shape of the controllers. It's a small wonder in itself that it doesn't overheat constantly with how densely packed everything is, and how tiny that cooling system is. And yet, the only time I've ever heard of one of these overheating is if someone stuck a case on it that obstructed the air vents. (Basically that entire 1mm gap where the front plate meets the rest of the assembly.) As much as I hate Zucc for his dystopian actions on the macro scale, I have nothing but mad respect for the engineers at Oculus who managed to make this little thing possible.

@iFixit Any idea why my Oculus controller are not working? Why are the controllers suddenly not working? I've done nothing different and the headset and controllers did not fall or take any type of damage. They just suddenly stopped working after a game of beatsaber. The environment of Oculus has not changed. No direct exposure to the sun with ample lighting and with more than enough room use it. I've reset the WiFi, take with my internet provider and they say everything is green. So that's not an issue. I turn off the headset and reset it multiple times. I've unpaired and repaired both controllers multiple times. The batteries are full and the do buzz as if there going to connect. The center white dots that acts likes a mouse cursor does react when I press the right controllers top trigger and A button but only makes the cursor flash blue per tap. Same goes the left controller for upper trigger and X. Only the upper triggers and lower buttons make the cursor flash from white to blue. But doesn't show hand or allow my hand to control the cursor. That's seems to be directly controlled by the headset. The cursor seems to stay center and only move headed on where I aim my head with the headset.

can you leave the battery out and connect it with a wire externally (say if you wanted to clip it to your belt) to reduce weight? Would that throw off how the system works?
@batterypwrlow
@batterypwrlow 2 жыл бұрын
It might. I know that the longer a charging cable for your phone gets, the slower the charge. Like test the recharge speed of a 3ft cable vs a 10ft cable. My guess is some of that electricity gets lost in the wire. I use an external power bank like a 10,000mah one for about 10-20 dollars. Adds another like 3-4 hours of non stop gameplay. Takes forever to recharge the power bank though so buy an extra lol.

@@REDxFROG High DPI would mean no SDE (screen door effect). It really depends on PPI, lens tech, display tech, and more. Of course it could still be bad, but chances are it's as good as the Quest 2 in most aspects (and far better in terms of resolution, image quality, clarity and dark performance since micro oled). The Kickstarter ends in a few days and they should be in the hands of backers before the end of next month (and in hands of reviewers some time between now and then).

if you want a more proper answer on how they track using cameras, AFAIK it's just by recognizing common objects and land marks in the area you're in, then they measure their size, check how much it gets smaller and bigger and how it rotates to track the headset. if it gets bigger you're moving forward! and you can see the object on the left of the headset move back, so that's how they can know, and they probably combine it with the accelerometer data to get better accuracy.

and i've contacted oculus support to get the part and they said they don't sell it and couldn't provide me with a part number. They did offer me a controller replacement though, which i politely refused and temporarily fixed it myself. Not sure if my fix is gonna last. I really hope that part will become available from the usual suspects as quest2 gets more popular and the demand for them increases.

Tried cleaning the exterior lenses and adjusting the room lighting? Possibly forcing the tracking frequency to your country's lighting?

I'm just going to stay plugged in or get an external battery when my battery starts going. I mainly looked this up though to see where the fan was because I felt it blowing and just simply got curious.

Please do the quest 2 remotes because weeks after I got mine the little joystick thingy on them keeps wiggin-out on me and messes with my gameplay and also my ability to scroll through menu options.
