That comment about AR by Palmer was a subtle burn.The HTC Vive is the only ARVR headset at HTC. He just called it garbage.
@Lukimator

+Ryumera I don't think you know what AR is, or at least you don't know what the Vive can do. The vive is not capable to do AR at all, the only thing it can achieve somehow is Augmented Virtuality, and I dont see much more uses to that than what they are already showing

+Kokomo BL Augmented Reality, also known as AR. From what i have seen, the VIVE is capable of AR with a front facing camera. Im being arrogant about it. We will see what gets developed for that camera. Ive already seen a pretty cool ARVR application in the Dell vid on HTC Vives youtube channel, a virutal desktop.
@Lukimator

Augmented Reality is when you introduce virtual elements in the real world in a way that it seems real. The Vive is always keeping you in VR, and then introduces real world objects to let you know where you are in the room, or you can trigger this manually as well. That is not called Augmented Reality, as I said that is Augmented Virtuality, because you put real world elements in VR, not viceversa

+MultiPlatGamerGuy There are "100+" games "coming" for the Oculus Rift too.. Although sure, the PSVR will probably be a bit cheaper overall, but it will also be lacking in quality, when compared to the Rift and Vive. In order to get good VR, that actually works, and tricks your brain right, it needs to be the best quality possible.

@bnjiodyn 8 жыл бұрын
+Paulo Aguiar I know eh? Waiting longer? I've been at the edge of my seat for VR since the original Oculus Rift kick-starter. But, at $1000 CAD, it's now something I want to make a more informed decision on -- wait for the competition and the dust to settle a bit. I have PC monitors worth almost as much. But pre-ordering a first-gen product is gamble at any price. DV1 & 2 dont really count. Even my Surface Pro 4 was terrible with bugs and bad light bleed. At least I could exchange it right away. If they had a store I could walk into and return or exchange at, I'd probably pull the trigger right now. But it's a bit too big of a gamble .

+Ben Odynski Come on man, just do it! I thought about buying it for about 30 mins and then decided to go with it. I mean, $600 for a fucking Virtual Reality! That is cheap! No matter what VR-headset you buy in beginning, the taxes/VAT will be included. About after two years when you get these from market it may be $500 without taxes. Until then, you just have to wait or go for it!

I don't think VR will stay unaffordable for a long time, it might be a question of 2 or 4 years. But when Social Network will meet Virtual Reality, it will be such a breakthrough and even a renaissance for the distance communication, that humanity will have a big reason to jump massively in VR And in that way the price will not be such a limit ! Everybody will want to have their own HOLODECK at home. We will buy VR like we buy actually a car ! The fact is Vr will be the down of teleportation ( locomotion+communication in one ) but even more, VR will become an alternative reality, and virtual space will redefine the boundaries of real space ! ! ! ! So we will have the choice to jump between the two realities...

I'm so hyped that I'll live to see the evolution of virtual reality and how far it will go. What they're doing now is just the baby steps to the big picture in the future. thus may seem high tech but just wait until 5-10 years from now.

+TRANS VR my friend has been working on a social VR thing. very basic. just a room. right mouse moves right hand left mouse moves left hand. talking into a mic moved the characters face. it was actually really cool. spacial awareness is amazing and my friend and I now use that if we just want to hang out and talk (he moved states away).

Better to keep price high and smaller population of people have access of VR at launch. We don't know or no data to understand how VR affect people vision over long period of usage. Some journalist report ghosting image in the eye after long play session. I can see poor VR content design might burn the retina. Also how it will affect kids who eyes are still in development? Having a mass adoption at launch following by a mass lawsuit is not something people want to happen.

+Doug Chan Exactly. Also if you had cheaper dk2 style cv1 more people without the proper knowledge in how to use them would buy it, try to use it on their best buy laptops and their first taste of vr would be horrible. Bad vr experiences would kill the industry for everyone.

+Kopischke No.. that's an absurd thing to claim. Shows how little you know, or just how bias you are. He pretty much brought VR back from the dead. And everything he's done, that people like you think was so wrong, was because that was the best way to make VR into a real thing. All of the "bad" things, including the facebook thing, turned out to be beneficial, and will be great for making VR into a real thing for gaming and beyond.

I just disagree with the choices he's made. I think he started out with a good idea and made a lot of shitty choices along the way and got a little money hungry and because of that, most of the other VR peripherals coming out are going to surpass Oculus in every way.
@linusmlgtips2123
@linusmlgtips2123 8 жыл бұрын
+Kopischke I don't see how he was in any way money hungry. The price is disappointing high, but that's to be expected of a first gen product. Also oculus even claimed they aren't making anything off of the hardware sales. The way I see it is that right now oculus wanted to make the best, highest end VR headset to stand themselves away from the competition and to throw their name out that they can make an amazing VR headset. In a few more years, hardware will mature enough to the point where oculus can make a great VR headset for half the price that a $500 PC can run, but for now in order to make a great VR headset that runs well you need a very high end PC. It wouldn't make sense to price the oculus at $300-$400 because they'd lose way too much money and quite honestly this is a first gen consumer product that has a first ten buyers fee to begin with.
