NOTE: YES, I am COMPLETELY aware I spelled Detroit wrong (thanks to all the commenters who pointed that out to me). YES, I wish I could go back and not rush my handwriting. That being said, I really hope that one typo doesn't take away from your enjoyment of the video! :)
Alex decides that Michigan is a confusing place that needs some serious explaining. You should now all feel more educated about this strange land.
Thanks a ton guys! Make sure to share this video with other Michiganders! (Oh, and subscribe please!)

Our weather in Michigan is really weird, usually at the beginning of summer in the morning it’s really cold and in the afternoon it gets really hot. Sometime at the end of winter it will snow then an hour later it will be hot like it’s summer. Michigan weathers very weird.

The Fabulous Faith Had a couple of small earthquakes in the last couple of years. They were caused by fracking though so we don’t get natural earthquakes. We can get the after effects of tropical storms, but actually hurricanes that hit Florida often affect our weather by blocking some of the warm air systems or doing the opposite.

Being born and raised in Michigan, Detroit area, (now living in Boston), the SEASONS are way more pronounced in Michigan/midwest. Michigan summers are way more hot than Boston(averagely), and winters are more extreme as well. And, in the winter here it is mostly sunny. I know. You see the sun way more.

Hey people! I'm Amelia! And.. I'm from the 'U.P" and I'm a natrual born Yooper. We don't mind the name. we take pride in it, and we aren't just a bunch of people living in the woods. Yes, It's freezing all the tme, but it's awesome in the summer. And our driving skills are awesome lol. And our awesome island is.. awesome. Pop? It's just another way to say soda or something. What ever you say. Our lakes :Holmes! Is pretty freakin cool to be around. Every summer we go to lake Erie, superior and Huron for camping or visiting family. CANNADA! It's our cousin! Our ideal! And I have family I visit every summer that live there, we litterly live a LAKE away from them. We could go on a speed boat and go to cannada! Our roads SUCK! Potholes EVERYWHERE! NO JOKE! IT'S REALLY BAD! WInter? It's agreat time. SOMETIMES. We get extreme breezes. Lastly... our "accent"... Eh? yeah I say it A LOT! But please don't laugh at us for it. We get it from our Cannadian cousins and cool brothers. Just roll with the flow please. Thanks!

On #7 the reason we have pothole is 1.) We use salt cause we got a lot of it (not good for roads) 2.) Most "road repairs" are bandaids on a open wound 3.) Truck weight is aloud to be a lot higher here.

@@samuelmoulds1016 Houghton? Umm, no, not Houghton, but there's some thought that in 1847 or 1848, Calumet almost became the state’s capital before losing narrowly to Lansing. See: www.nytimes.com/2007/08/10/travel/escapes/10American.html and: www.keweenaw.info/keweenaw-peninsula/calumet/ But that may only be a myth: "A myth, its origins unknown, has persuaded some residents of the U. P. that Calumet was the runner-up in the 1847 relocation of the State Capital, losing to Lansing by only one vote. And while residents of Calumet and other regions of the U. P. believe wholeheartedly that this rumor stems from fact, the lack of evidence from factual sources strongly suggests that this story exists as a myth and nothing more." There was a joke circulating a few years back that our state flag ought to be a picture of a construction cone. lmao I don't think I can disagree. A lot of people don't get why our roads are so bad- and in a nutshell, mainly it comes down to the nature of the industry here in Michigan (you see Semi trucks hauling loads everywhere!! ALL the time!), also that our weather is VIOLENTLY changing at a moments notice- or sometimes not at all(no notice)!! All-and-all though.. I love this miserable state.

The reason Michigan roads are so bad is because we’re the Motor Capital of the World & we have the highest weight limits allowed on our roads. Add that to the fact we have 4 seasons* w/ the changing temperatures, plus lots of snow, ice, & salt. Then, add that to the fact that everyone drives cars because Henry Ford tanked our public transportation system to force everyone to have to buy cars, so we have the perfect storm that causes our roads to be some of the worst roads in the nation. If I ran things, these big companies that ship heavy truckloads would pay a tax based on the weight limits which they carry & that money would go towards fixing the roads. Your video was very entertaining & I was cracking up. Your Michigan Left description is priceless! I hope you become some kind of a public speaker. Excellent job! *I know we’re supposed to have 4 seasons in Michigan, but it seems like we only have 2: Winter & Construction.

Detroit used to be the Capitol long ago but it was changed during the war because of it’s close proximity to Canada. Lansing became the Capitol of Michigan in 1847.

Detroit historically was the capital of Michigan then they voted to move it to the middle of the lower part of the state. Detroit is a French word and also was part of Canada later switching to the USA.. Mackinac island was 2nd to become a federal park right after yellow stone. Also no cars allowed and rated the best vacationed island in the world...love Michigan..😉hi from Kalamazoo

The legal drinking age in MI is 21. The legal drinking age in Canada is 19, so many Michiganders drive to Canada for the weekend to go bar hopping when they are 19-20yrs old

In clarification, in case anyone thinks we're obsessed with getting back a dime...The deposit is 10 cents PER can/bottle. So upon return of a 12 pack of pop, it's $1.10. Not just ten cents.

I'm watching your video on the misconceptions of Michigan and we do spell Yooper Y-O-O-P-E-R. We refer to anyone in lower Michigan as trolls. The one thing you should have mentioned is that we do drive cars in the U.P. As in the Macinac Island is where you only have three options for transportation: Bikes, Walking, Carriage rides (horses).

(side note) Preface: I have ONLY ever lived in one state, my entire life (32 years so far lol)- Michigan... That being said.. and people think I'm VERY weird for it- I say "soda" Why? Because it's "soda pop"... it has never made sense to me to say "pop".. it's the 2nd word in the 2-word name... I just always go with the first, I guess.. (And yes, even my mother, siblings, etc. think I'm weird because I say "soda". Oh well. lol)

I grew up in MI, but then my parents moved us to WV(massive shock to my 15 yo system lol). I quickly stopped saying pop and went with soda due to always getting snarky comments on the "accent" and how i said pop. Im the only one in my family who says soda, and they think it's weird as well lol. ******************* I'm the last one in my family not back in MI, but I'll be moving back up within a year and introducing my husband and daughter to all our "odd" things. This video makes me wanna go now!

Never new it was called a "Michigan" left. What about "Michigan" basements. That confuses people in Arizona because nobody has basements. One thing Iv'e never seen or done is using the palm of my right hand to indicate where I'm from, but lots of people in surrounding states say that we do that alot. Here is something really weird if it still applies. You can set off fireworks in Michigan where they are illegal to buy yet You can buy fireworks in Indiana (where they are illegal to use) however, if you have a MI ID while buying fireworks in Indiana, you have to sign a waiver saying you promise not to use them in Michigan. (or, of course, Indiana)
