We all know that even though he abandoned the quest out of frustration, he will still be keeping an eye out for all those ingredients and keeping them in his stash for when he eventually returns to complete the quest.

And let's not overlook the fact that even though spiders have eight yes, Ben will have to kill 50-100 giant spiders just to get one eye.

I started to think Boger's list was also his lunch order because crafting swords makes him hungry.

Even if he did get all the ingredients, the sword would be lower level than his current one, and if it's a quest-related sword, he can't even sell it. Just doomed to carry around a crappy sword made from mashed potatoes. lol

This give me flashbacks to The Witcher 3 where you need monster brains and eyes to make Swords and Armor

Makes me think of when a game's crafting/harvesting system asks you to collect something as simple as water, and there is water everywhere, rivers, lakes, etc, but it doesn't let you harvest it, but instead makes you walk around the most dry area of the map to try and dig for it in the ground.

The mashed potatoes aren't for the sword, it's for the blacksmith. He figured since you were getting all this stuff, you could get him dinner.

Pfft! I got myself an ashen sword. The goblin feces were surprisingly easy. The sword is actually a bit lower than average in damage for it's level, but get this: Poison damage that doesn't wear off (feces). It replenishes hunger and stamina (sandwich/ mash). Resistances to pretty much any element (ash/ chalice). Footpads less likely to attempt theft (old boot). The hens tooth adds a chance to summon a flock of fire breathing chickens! And it looks really really cool.

Oh, I see, he's gonna make his own clay for the clay tempering process. Yes, sanctified goblin feces does indeed help the carbon in the steel form far more uniformly than other fecal samples would. That makes perfect sense. Why'd the adventurer not believe him? Everything else checks out, too. The spider eye is for snacking. Gotta be from a big spider, the kind where each eye is the size of a grapefruit. Deliciously juicy. Gotta stay hydrated when working a hot forge.

I bet half of the items could be somehow gathered from a random vendor who doesn't even know they had those things...

Funny trivia: in a documentary about the history of metalworking, they said that medieval blacksmiths had a lot of weird rituals that they kept doing because it worked, such as grinding the bones of a srong animal and cover the hot iron in dust "to infuse the animal spirit on the metal" or immerse the red hot iron in "the urine of a ginger boy" to make it harder. The bone dust added carbon to the mixture, making an early version of steel, and the pee worked as water for Quenching the metal. So it was perfectly logical for a blacksmith to ask for "wolf bones" of "pee from a ginger kid" as ingredients for a sword

It doesn't sounds that impossible - chicks have a "tooth" on their beak to break the egg when they hatch, and sapphires can have many colours (apart from red, then it's called a ruby :D ). Can't help you with the goblin feces though...

Should have Ben randomly finding these things in the background of videos. Then have Ben find the last item in a loot drop at the start of a video and head back to Bodger. Bodger then needs Ben's help keeping the fire hot requiring precise and lengthy control inputs. Ben gets everything right...until he sneezes on the last keystroke (maybe a cat jumps on the keyboard) and he gets a lesser ashen sword which can't complete the quest. Queue rage quit. Conversely, Ben could do everything too perfectly and get a greater ashen sword, which he is too low level to use.

There actually is something of a precedence for using feces in the forging of a sword. In german folklore the legendary blacksmith Wieland is said to have forged the sword "Mimir" by reforging it three times. With every reforging he first ground the sword up into small particles, mixed them with wheat and fed the mixture to geese that had been starving for three days. He would then take the feces of the geese and smelt the iron out of it again and then reforge the sword from that iron. After each reforging he would take the sword and have a river carry a clump of wool against the blade to test it's sharpness. After the third and final reforging the blade was so sharp that it cleanly cut through three feet of wool. Of course King Nidung (the local regent) wanted to posess that sword but Wieland hid it and forged a new sword that looked the same but of course didn't have the same quality. He later gave the sword mimir to his son Wittich when he went to serve king Dietrich of Bern. From a metallurgy point of view this process actually makes sense. The iron would take on the nitrogen contained in the feces which would make the iron much stronger. It's essentially a precursor discovery to steel where we use carbon to make the iron stronger.
