The Super Pershing in War Thunder is what made me want to play the game in the first place. Today, I take it out for some much needed nostalgia!
The T26E1 is a monster. Armed with a HUGE 90mm cannon that can easily punch through a Panther or Tiger at any angle, this beast is SO awesome... it wears a Panther as extra armour!
Today, I take it out and get a nuke in War Thunder!

i never knew that this was the lineage of the super pershing; a T26 wearing the cannibalized front glacis of a panther over its bow and mantlet to the point that they needed to weld a giant mass of steel to the very back so the bearings in the turret ring didn't pop. this might be my favorite war vehicle i've ever seen, point-blank, period.

My dad got to play with the real ones. His job during the Korean era was taking new or repaired tanks out on the proving grounds, making sure everything worked like it was supposed to.

@@johnib5905 It may have been the regular Pershing or a Patton he was telling me about one day. Had to be a shorter barrel. If you get 'em to top speed downhill and slam it in reverse, it will stand almost straight up on it's nose, plop down and take off backwards up the hill. It will also toss the asshole out who's been giving you grief from the commander's hatch.

It doesn't really belong at 6.7 imo. I liked the dynamic it had with the IS-2 mod 1944, and Tiger II (P). They all had pros and cons.

@@michaelbeale559 I think its perfectly fine at 6.7. I agree that a full uptier sometimes can be really hard in it but its just too strong to sit at 6.3 too. In a full downtier she dominates the battlefield when played right and in uptiers it sometimes can do too.

@@Ryanlgt I think it's okay to mediocre at 6.7. I normally play the T34 or the T26E5 if I wanna play a heavy tank at that BR. Compared to other tanks at 6.3, I don't think the increase in BR was justified.

@@michaelbeale559 yeah I can understand that. I always pick the T34 instead of T26E5 because I use a 7.0 Lineup with the T29. I prefer a T34 too over a T26E5 because it gets kinda hard at 8.0.

Oh yes, the War Thunder stories, a video format I would really love to see again! I loved those wonderfully narrated, thrilling, action packed videos, turning a single battle into an entire short movie of its own. Please bring them back, that would be epic!

Actually the thing on the top are springs to raise and lower the barrel since it was so heavy and the original system couldn't move it. ConeofArc c9vers this tank and is interesting since their was another version of the gun that uses two piece ammo

iirc this is the version that uses two piece ammo and the T26E1 with the T54 cannon has one piece ammunition. Edit: just looked it up, the T15E1 used in the super Pershing was the single piece ammunition, the T54 was just a refinement of the same gun with shorter but fatter shell cases, which probably translates to the faster reload in game. I was thinking the T15E2 which was the two piece version on the long 90.

i remember when they introduced overpreassure mechanic in WT you could destroy Super Perching by shooting that spring with weakiest HE shells,becouse it counted that spring as interior damage

I remember getting it and not expecting much from the little I saw of it in the test drive and on the stat card. Turned out to be really quite good, one of the few longer term vehicles I have a 2+ K/D in. I suspect its setup stopped me from overextending.

fun fact, the extra armor on the turret is connected to the elevation and depression mechanism, it adds so much weight that it needs those 2 cylinders on the top of the turret. those 2 cylinders are actually just springs that help the elevation mechanism lift the gun and armor

ya those two tubes on top are actually springs which counter the weight of its giant bonk stick. so its pretty realistic that you loose vertical guidance when it gets shot

Sometimes a great tank but not 6.7, maybe 6.3 because unlike the tiger 2 from the front (turret is a exception and the mg port is hard to hit) this can be penned anywhere. In other words its a heavy tank thats easily killed from the front by almost anything.

Pretty much anything you fight at this br will punch through your upper front plate like it’s tin foil. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve died to HEATFS despite the upper front literally being designed explicitly for HEAT. Add to that the fact that the 90mm cannon doesn’t pen as well as the German 88 for some absolutely nonsensical reason and you get a tank which gets its ass kicked by players of equal or even less skill to you.

@@rudolphknoetze1487 Well, it is effective but like everything in a game, where balance is a requirement, it can be defeated. No vehicle is invincible and no vehicle is guaranteed to be a one-shot victor over every opponent.

I got my very first nuke using this tank(which was yesterday) something about cross mapping German tank destroyers Is just great Also you are right about the springs on top of the turret, it was just used to help stabilize the gun because it was so heavy and long. I’m sure it did help with the vertical guidance of the cannon but it did not control the whole thing

Honestly feel like this thing is at the proper BR while the other Pershing’s are too high. The Pershing’s without the improved barrel and armor should be 6.3 instead, besides the T26E1-1

The Jumbo Pershing is a bit of a problem. At 6.3 it becomes every king tiger wet dream most of the time. At 6.7 gets steam rolled most of the time.

The Super Pershing is a US Tiger II(P) but at a higher BR for some reason.

The armor and gun on the Tiger II (P) are better. You can at least count on your hull armor in the Tiger and wiggle the turret and you're pretty hard to pen. The gun has more penetration, a faster reload but less filler... but I rarely ever don't one shot with the KwK 43

And with a significantly worse gun (despite being a larger caliber with a longer barrel and better shell. F*ck you, Gaijin.) and worse armor pretty much everywhere and obvious weak spots. So basically not like a Tiger II at all.

@@michaelbeale559hahaha. Both tigers 2 are mediocre tanks compared to pershing because of their low armor in the turret, high profile, low mobility and the ammo right in the center of the turret.

the two tubes on top are hydropneumatic dampeners (or however they are called my english is not perfect) like the tubes on top or below the 88mm flak and many other cannons. they were installed because the additional armor mounted to the mantlet and therefore at the gun made it too heavy to elevate. so the gun itself is perfectly fine, the aemor is the issue they wanted to solve. so if it would be realistic, the moment those two cylinders get destroyed you should be able to hokd your gun at its current elevation or lower it but you would not be able to elevate it any amount because of the weight

For the version we have in War Thunder those are just honking great springs. The two prototypes sent to Europe had that system as a stopgap measure while they kept working on the issue back in the States. The hydraulic system you are thinking of was the “production” fix and was completely internal.

@@lorddestructive Yes, they would indeed serve the same purpose. But unfortunately your statement is still incorrect. Firstly in the type of system and secondly in the reason it was installed. The extra weight of the much longer barrel was the problem. The elevation system installed in the prototype’s turrets simply lacked the strength and robustness to cope with that extreme imbalance. The springs were a field expedient that was replaced by a heavy duty internal hydraulic system for the “production” vehicles.

I hate fighting this thing in all except one circumstance. When you slap its left side mantlet cheek with HEATFS it almost always ammo racks the thing. Doing it with the Lekpz is always awesome.

didn't know about the vertical stabilizer problem that tank had, I stopped shooting that spot long ago since it wasn't a viable penetration spot like it was in wot, But I did recently find out I can upper front plate the super pershing with the long 88.

i heard a story about this tank. When they were developing it they took the gun to a firing range in Germany. At one end was the gun and the other and Panther tank facing them. They fired 1 shot. It passed thorugh the front plate, through the crew compartment, through the engine block and out the back burying itself in the berm behind the Panther. They never found the round.

This is the tank I'm currently researching, so my line-up for 6.7 will be: T26E5 T26E1-1 T34 M26 And the 1st Corsair that's available in the tech tree, which sits at 2.7, I only get 1 1000lb bomb and 6 .50 cals, but it gets the job done (I'm playing on a controller, and I don't really like playing air battles, and I just started to master CAS).

Pretty certain the 'vertical stabilizer' is literally just springs that work to offset the weight of the gun and the armor. As I remember hearing that this is more of a field upgrade then actual service tank.

Ok some quick brushing up, the springs were present on the prototypes due to the mechanism being unable to be done internally, however the production of the T26E4 for which this tank eventually became, had an internal hydropneumatic equilibrator installed inside the turret. As for the armor I'm not 100% certain on the history and facts regarding those specifically.

In some of your videos, you mention spotting a particular tank effortlessly, while I find myself struggling to do so even with keen observation. Is this exceptional talent solely a result of your experience, or would you be willing to share some valuable advice to help me improve my own spotting skills, beyond the generic recommendation of "playing more"? :)
