The Tigris in War Thunder is a Hungarian Heavy Tank for the Italian Tech Tree. Basically this is an almost export version of the Tiger that's now a Premium Tank for Italy giving the Italian tech tree it's very first Heavy!
The Tigris is a Tiger E with no smoke launchers and some additional track armor on the upper front plate. This is probably the best Tiger 1 tank in War Thunder right now next to the Japanese No.6 but it cost a LOT less than that does.
It's a great addition to the Italian tech tree but once again... it's just a shame a vital piece of a line up is a Premium. At least it isn't $500! :)

the additional track armor might not be a ton extra but it covers the weakest parts of the armor frontally while leaving the volumetric hell spots of the mg port and viewport free to shoot which in my experience has been hit way more often because it just looks less armored than the rest, combined with fighting german teams often this thing is a true beast and a joy to play with just like the japanese tiger, the russian panther and french panther

It makes it so that the American 75mm can no longer go through here, as well as all the other early 75mm guns with about 104mm of pen. It's completely immune to the front from all these guns without any angling.

When I started playing warthunder I got to 5.7 USA and hated fighting tigers and panthers so much that I switched to germany, I enjoyed the game significantly more playing germany and often got 8-10 kill games in the panthers and tigers. Anyone who complains about panthers or tigers being weak actually has no idea how good they have it.

Germany is basically easy mode for a US main, though you do still have to know how not to get yourself killed. USSR is beyond easy mode, you just hold W until you see somebody.

@@XSpamDragonX I've had the opposite experience, love my shermans but could never get the hang of the T-34, I do have some fun with the German tree every once in a while though. Maybe its the gun depression and lack of gun stability thats killing my shots since I make heavy use of the stabiliser on the sherman and the panther and tiger are super good gun platforms

@@C4Cole05 Yeah you can't really hit anything unless you are stationary, but I pretty much always try to get as close as possible with Soviet tanks. The gun depression can be a big issue but there are so many urban maps in rotation that you can usually just stick to flat areas to minimise the problem. As long as you know where everyone's weakspots are you can penetrate anything no matter the angle. I struggle to hit the turret weakspots on Shermans all the time with the German 50mm, but the Soviet 76 just normalises against the curve and melts the whole turret crew.

I have the opposite experience, I find Germany to be utter hell, but the 75mm Jumbo feels like easy mode, the cannon has such perfect handling, the armor is perfection, and the mobility is way above adequate, it is easy to transmission/driver-shot angled tigers and then you can barrel shot and move easily, if you don't have a barrel shot simply angle the hull very slightly and move up to get a better angle since the shells disappear if the edge of the MG port are touched thanks to volumetric. Panthers are a bit harder to deal with because the smaller shells can still fit through the MG port, but they have no reverse gear and usually lag makes the MG port nearly impossible to hit if you abuse the debris and weird ground noise of most maps.

I started with Germany then moved on to Russia and US. All three nations are very strong around that br, USA get the hellcats and jumbo along with insane CAS, Germany have the panthers and tigers which can easily kill anything and have great armour if you use it properly, Russia get the t35 85 which is very versatile and the IS2 which is a one shot machine. Around 6.0 is probably the most fun BR in the game because every nation is competitive.

Vehicles that I wish that Gaijin could add in the future: 38M Toldi I (with the 20mm AT rifle), 40M Nimrod, 44M Tas, 43M Toldi Páncélvadász (Armed with a 75mm PaK 40), Light Tank V4, and Hungary could even get a Panther & a Hetzer.

the zoom giving "extra" hearing is actually a thing in a lot of games, presumably because unlike in real life a "zoom" function can end up being implemented in such a way that it is _actually_ changing the distance. if that is actually a thing in WT then it should be fairly global though...or at least a more common issue in new vehicles if they need to remember to counteract it when they aren't just copy-pasting something that they already made for something else.

It’s 100% true for WT. Zooming in moves the free floating camera closer to your vehicle center of mass and since all the sounds are considered to be heard by the microphones on this camera - you are actually closing the distance. This is why in ARB you stop hearing engine sound beyond 1M is you zoom in, and zooming in gives you way better understanding where enemy plane is as well.

@@alexey_chekhovich cool to know! not quite what I was talking about though: in some games your zoom moves your camera WAY ahead of your position and in others it changes the distance values and in some of those games they still use those values for the sounds. ^oversimplifying for the sake of not writing an essay (and because I don't entirely know what I'm talking about off the top of my head) but this gets the basic idea across.

Actually behind the front plate of tiger, there are two brackets of 30mm for holding the front plate. The areas for each of them around half of the track at both side. Yet war thunder never made them into the game. While centurions got every interior plates.

If you bring HEAT instead of HE, you can load it when there's a medium and truck nearby, because it can still overpressure a truck or do SOME damage to a medium

And here's Oddz, roleplaying as Hungarian tank ace Lt. Ervin Tarcay. He's more known for commanding a Turán II and later Panzer IV H tank (the irony) but for a brief time he also operated a Tiger I E. He got knighted and then died in battle just a few days later.

funfact. the british Army (i think) wrote a book about the armor added by the tankcrews.. and established that it has almost no effect on the overall armor level. British and US Tankcrews used to put on sandbags railroadwheels (germany mostly) and / or weld some extra plates on they found. it helped boost their confidence in battle so the Brass went along with it. they only real effect it has is that you add some extra useless weight to the tanks. but i guess a good confidence is a bonus in it self.

Italy sort of has a heavy tank. Or they thought they had a heavy tank. They designed the P40 to be a heavy tank(that's why its a bit more durable than the rest of Italy's vehicles) but it didn't really pass off as a heavy. Considering how big and well armored the tiger was. my basis: cone of arc's cursed by design vid on the p40 tank. I suppose the closest thing to a heavy the p40 has is its apcbc round, has about the same explosive mass as one of the tiger's shellls, the one that has 280g of explosive mass.

Fun history fact: The 2nd hungarian army recieved only 3 of these tanks, by the german field commanders, unapproved by the german high command. Also several panthers and hundreds of Pz38t's and PzIVs (the PzIV and the Panther was considered a heavy tank by the hungarian army).

you say no smoke is a disadvantage but it also means you dont have that weird spot on either of the front angles where your gun has to raise up cuz the smoke launchers

this video just goes to show why i both love and hate battle mode on Flanders, it turns the game into a 1916 simulator where you're just in a massive trench-to-trench ridge-to-ridge slugfest, and the only problem with it is you're in it for the full duration and you're constantly thinking about what you're doing and where you're going for the full 25 minutes, but damn does it feel so rewarding by the end

So far I've only seen this Tiger bumble across the Battlefield completely clueless just like the German ones. Trying to squeeze through too narrow passages with 2 tanks next to each other and fun activities like that XD
