I have vivid memories of watching my older brother playing a game, strange looking aliens, and simply the phrase "it was us!". Until today, all I remembered was that phrase and the Soylent Green-esque premise. It traumatised me as a child, I remember having recurring nightmares about it. Every time in the last twenty-something years that I have randomly remembered that phrase "it was us!", it brought back a chill. Today I had an epiphany of sorts and googled everything I suddenly remembered, and lo and behold, it wasn't a childish fever dream, it was real! The human brain is incredible.

I dont know how I managed to "play" this back in 97 or 98, but somehow I saw the intro as very young, not even teenager and I was traumatized by the intro, I still remember parts of this, especially the meat processing part. I remember someone was playing it and they didnt understand why I was so afraid of the characters. I guess this game was my first "horror" game so to speak for me. Not hating on the game, but I should never have seen the intro back then. I also remember the going through the dark door frames and re-watching the exploding enemies freaks me out abit haha, i remember as a kid I didnt understand anything of what was shown.

I remember being about 7 or 8 years old and discovering this game, and its sequels later, and was really intrigued the way you can be when first discovering Tim Burton movies; There's a sort of morbid charm to them that really draws you in, that creeped you out because of the imagery but you also want to look more. Few things can pull that off like Oddworld.

These are my opinions on the Oddworld games. Oddworld Abe’s Oddysee - Great Nostalgia! Oddworld Abe’s Exoddus - Fantastic Adventure! Oddworld Munch’s Oddysee - Different but still great fun! Oddworld Strangers Wrath - Feels like a chore. Oddworld New & Tasty - Clearly a remake of Oddworld Abe’s Oddysee but decent none the less. Oddworld Soulstorm - Oh Boy! Looks like an experience!

How does Strangers Wrath feel like a chore it was really fun Munch felt like a Chore because it felt unfinished loads of levels but not a lot variety and Munch the Protagonist was useless.

The fact that these cutscenes from 1997 are on par with and in some cases, better then those in New 'n Tasty is both a testament to just how good Oddworld Inhabitants used to be and just how lazy they've become...

I can't remember where, but I remember seeing a rather critical review of New 'N Tasty, and it made some pretty compelling points about how the remake missed the point on a lot of the original's subtlety and darker undertones. Probably the most damning change was the inclusion of billboards that advertised for other games. Including ads in a game is almost always a bad idea to begin with, but to include ads in a game that had pretty strong anti corporate and anti capitalist themes is particularly tasteless.

This game is the inspiration for my own designs. Combining different creatures to make a new original creature, etc. I remember when I was rather young, I was too into Medal of Honour to enjoy it, but when I got past that phase, I fell in love with it. Then was introduced to Exoddus by my uncle. Then I got an X-BOX 360 JUST to play Munch. I eventually got the classic pack on Steam and recorded plays etc. Adored it...probably a bit much, perhaps. Made a few fanfictions of it that, while keeping to the serious tone, may be distracting to the watcher. What can I say? I love a good story, and that's exactly what these games are.

I was so disappointed with the remakes. They lost track of what made the game special and just focused on fancy graphics. They had a message of anti-corporation views and then went ahead and advertised their other games in the game itself. Such hypocrisy and a spit in the face of the fans. I’m just glad I can enjoy this masterpiece on KZfaq, thanks for the upload.
