"Ode to the West Wind" is an poem written by Percy Bysshe Shelley in 1819 in Cascine wood near Florence, Italy. It was originally published in 1820 by Charles Ollier in London as part of the collection Prometheus Unbound, A Lyrical Drama in Four Acts, With Other Poems.
"Ode to the West Wind" shows us the power of the wind which brings a change in the natural world. Similarly, the poet wishes for reform in society. Throughout the poem, the West Wind has been a force of destruction and death. But the speaker has celebrated its power. In the last line, it becomes clear why. The speaker wants renewal and rebirth, a transformation of society.
