I have a question, this year I just started odyssey of the mind with some of the kids in my class with our GT coach, why don’t you guys use stages to perform the problems?
@derickleach13914 жыл бұрын
Bobby Is The New Revolution if you’re in the theater problem usually you’ll have a small theater if the school hosting allows and then at world which is always at a college from my experience the first world comp I went to was the structure comp and it was usually in the basketball gym because it’s judged a lot more for the structures weight held than the skit whereas in high school when I made it again we were the theater problem and regionals and world we were on a stage and then college classroom designed like a theater respectively. Basically you’re set by the limits of the schools that choose to host but odyssey is almost all about doing what you can with what you have that’s why they give a budget, it’s not about the theatrics it’s about the ingenuity more than anything.

Am I the only one that signed up for odyssey of the mind 2019 having no idea what they were in for? Oh my god I’m so scared. Lol I don’t think there’s any place for social anxiety in this type of thing.

Wow lul you're screwed. I'm signing up for it too. I just moved schools and my friend at my old school across town is on the team. Guess I'll be competing against her. I wonder if our team will end up going against them.

Went thru the same initial reaction our first season. About 1/3 of the way thru I was convinced I had made a colossal mistake of overcommitment! But hang in there, and get help managing from other grownups -- whether it's help planning out the season, or even if they can just tag in for like 5-10 min. If you keep your nerve and see it to the end, it tends to work out. I'm convinced this is the coolest thing I have done as a parent so far (and I'm on my 3rd season)

This is the same person. I actually am seriously enjoying it! I’m on a team with all people I know and I’m already becoming great friends with them. We had a party tonight to get to know each other better. I seriously think I’ve found some friends for life. Or at least for all of my school career. And I think we already have some amazing solutions. I’m having a lot of fun and I really think all of this is helping me anxiety. I haven’t been having any problems at all with it.

Remember, when working in odyssey, every second counts. Make sure your team co-operates, it will definitely help you in the long run. Remember to have extra meetings for it when you might be running low on time. Don’t be afraid to try new things.

This is amazing! I am an OM coach for a team that is choosing to do Structure for the first time. Just curious, how much weight did this structure hold? It looks like a lot of weight!
@lauradereksachs7948 ай бұрын
Hi David. The weight was 910 (which was 4th in weight). Top weight was 1,135. This team won 3rd place in Worlds that year so Style, Spontaneous and Long Term part of the problem were important!

I just randomly clicked on this having no idea what Odyssey of the mind is. I was so confused after watching it, and it seems like the most random thing I've watched lol. Like there was a musical production happening while 4 guys were stacking 300 lbs of weights on a homemade brick stool. What. And at the very beginning where the poor guy had to sing the "do do dodododo do do" classic circus theme song, after he repeated it 5 times, I looked at the time remaining (8 minutes) and was like "oh no, oh Jesus, the poor kid is gonna have to sing that for 8 minutes straight". But it was a relief when he stopped when the act began. This is one of the most confusing random videos I've ever seen. It's clear that the kids are great kids that put a lot of talent and effort into this, but I just don't get what it is. Lol. Where can I see more of these 1/2 musical act 1/2 weight stacking plays?

Hi Emily k. OoTM is a worldwide problem solving competition. There are 5, very different, categories. This category is Structure. Each year the problem changes. In 2018 teams had to build a structure from balsa wood that weighed no more than 15 grams (3 nickels) that holds weight. That’s the stacking you see. This team held nearly 1,000 pounds before the structure collapsed…using a structure that weighed only 15g. In addition the structure had to be in the shape of an animal and have a way to “feed” it. So what’s with the play? Well, the team had to create a play that told a story about the animal. Hope that helps.
