Davina Bennett's fame grew overnight as she was known as the afro queen when she claimed 2nd runner-up at the Miss Universe 2017 pageant. She shares her less than pretty journey to becoming Miss Jamaica, and candidly reveals her battle with depression, facing many rejections and doors closing.
Davina very candidly shares where her career path has taken her and her many life lessons along the way.

Great interview. My biggest takeaway is that as a mother, I need to give my son some more compliments. I need to celebrate his wins no matter how small because that will help him to be more confident.

Communication and self expression need to be added to the everyday lives of many Jamaican families. It’s not enough to provide and protect your children. They need to hear that they’re loved, encouraged to build their self confidence as well as they need to feel comfortable enough to talk to their parents about their feelings. Davina is drop dead gorgeous and didn’t think she was beautiful, let that sink in. Even with mental illness, it’s so taboo that ppl suffering from it is just cast aside. Davina, you are meant to be here. Such an inspiration to so many young girls who look like you!

Davina it was your beautiful afro which made me wonder what my own hair looked like, after having not seen it for over 30 plus years. It was processed at 11 years and was relaxed ever since. I was always told how terrible my natural hair was. Today, my hair has been natural for nearly 4 years and it is Beautiful. Thanks for being the domino Davina! I was watching a video yesterday where Steven Furtick said we should consider our "closed doors/ rejections" as our Pruning Seasoning. Sometimes in our heads, those closed doors are the worst thing we could think of, but best believe it happened for a reason. God was working on you silently, but because it wasn't obvious what he was doing; you thought he was not there. He was pruning you so that you can flourish in the future. He purposefully cut those unwanted branches because he had better plans for you. It's just like a sunflower, it needs both the sun and the rain. Just like how you needed the bad and good experiences love! Remain steadfast and trust in God. You have a purpose here to fulfill Davina! @Yendi, I love what you do, you're such an amazing soul! Humble and genuine. Keep it up!

Great interview and a good example of how we see people who are in the limelight and think they have it all and are super confident. It is also a testimony of how years of self doubt and low self esteem can rob you of basking in the joy of your achievements and happiness. Davina you are a role model to many girls, you have achieved greatness and on a roll to fulfilling a lot more of what you dream of, you have made Jamaica proud, you are worthy, you are beautiful and you have what to me is most important - a beautiful spirit! Yes, the mind is a powerful thing, you are what you think, so use those positive affirmations you talk about and manifest that it is indeed your friend. Keep up the good work Yendi and I look forward to another inspiring story next week!

Davina is a beautiful soul...She has such a unique look, so I am very surprised that many modeling agencies closed the door on her. A very good take away is that she spent all her early years looking for positive affirmations from her mom, that made her plant seeds of self-doubt in her mind. It almost crippled her, but God plucked her up & set her on a path that she was already destined for without even knowing it. Jamaican parent will provide secutity & financial support etc...but many of them do not give their children positive affirmations, which can negatively impact a child! Davina did not whisper or conform, but she shouted & we heard her! Will never forget her stage presence at Miss Universe with the afro & that yellow sparkling dress....She was and still is a STAR! Great job Yendi! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

I love this 😫 I was just contemplating how much I hate my life and how wrong things are going. And then as I lay in bed crying I opened the KZfaq app and instantly found this. You girls have encouraged me to press on. Thank You🌹🌹 I suffer from depression and anxiety as well. This was really needed for my morning motivation. 😌

Love Davina's spirit! From brokenness to bravado!! Well done. Yendi is the best interviewer ever : tears, jokes, games always carefully orchestrated with a message....a word!!!! Call Netflix!

Such a moving interview. Yendi, you are doing such a great job with ''Odyssey" alone, I can imagine the success you are reaping otherwise. Trust that you will continue to do what you are doing as a gift to Jamaica and the world.

Yendi you have done it again. Thank you. This interview could not have been viewed by me at a better time. This reinforces the saying: Every disappointment is God's appointment. When God says YES, nobody can say NO.

Yendi thanks so much for this and your many other shows. Davina is incredible! I left Jamaica as a young boy( I am now 58 and have returned many times) and when I left I never wanted to come back...that was sometime ago and I must say how proud I am of the young generation who are representing Jamaica so magnificently. Btw, I had never heard of you, but as bad as the pandemic have been, it allowed me to find great people like you on KZfaq. Thanks for the content and keep up the great work...you are a natural interviewer and I am loving meeting these great young Jamaican’s
