Odyssey, and episodes with Dr. Fletcher in particular, was one of the best. Do keep in mind though the series is 10 and more years old, this episode being 2007 apparently, and in 21st century science just a year is a very long time. This mummy's story could possibly now be very different. Alas that's what we get on YT and for 'free', but this still a great watch and better than most of the amateur junk tossed up however current.

Me, an expert in human osteology and postmortem identification who’s been in the field for the past 11 years, checking out the initial x-ray of the mummy: Would you look at that nice big kidney bean shaped pelvic inlet, it’s wider than mine! I wonder how many scenes we’re going to have to watch before the big shocking twist of a gender reveal is going to happen. 🙃 (In all seriousness though, I cannot even believe that the initial determination of sex was made just from the brow ridge. I know this must’ve been cut down for TV and I’m sure that other analyses and measurements were made, but the case for male was shaky to begin with. It wouldn’t surprise me to learn that the Big Shocking Gender Reveal was simply done for the purpose of the plot, because I refuse to believe that multiple competent skeletal experts all decided to just go with this opinion for so long without definitive proof one way or the other. Screwing up one of the Big Four (age, sex, race, and stature) is a rather fundamental, and embarrassing, mistake for any of us who work with skeletal remains. It can happen to anybody, and it’s why we don’t like saying anything until we’re sure, much less why we don’t base an entire profile around it until we’re sure.)

I'm certainly no bone expert such as yourself, but I DID read the title of the video. I, too, wondered how much forensic analysis was it going to take before somebody looked at the pelvis!! So interesting.. many questions raised. I don't know why they didn't mention her right hand, looked to me that it would have been holding something .. as to why are the fingers apparently curving round something no longer there.. the left hand situated gracefully against the body, fingers extended. And why was it assumed she was a warrior, maybe she was a swimmer/diver (fishing net reference) and do we know what proffesions were reveered, could give high status... maybe a blacksmith ? .. fascinating stuff, love these investigations 🔎 😍

Surprised to see at them examine the mummy without wearing a mask, head covering, clean lab coat, and gloves. In my training as a registered nurse and later on as an anthropologist, we were always properly attired while conducting an examination even if only it was a visual. Very disappointing conduct by professionals. The reason- microbes they introduce will have a deleterious effect on the mummy. The examiners’ loose hair and close-range exhaled breath are but two of the initial modes of microbial transmission.

I have numerous North African (Tunisia?) textiles that exactly resemble the textiles at timeline 18:13 minutes and also at 36:18 minutes. Could this be a possible error? My late husband, a white American from South Dakota and born in 1940, had a very pronounced brow ridge that often made me wonder about his unknown ancestors. While it complimented his face and rugged 6' stature his daughter, standing 5' 6", inherited his face and physical rugged stature. I share this because if her skeleton were examined in the far off future she may also be incorrectly thought to have been male; it is an easy mistake then, now and perhaps always.

Seems to me that ruling out the chinchorro link based on the head band alone is silly. Could have been the mummy received, traded, fought for it. Heck could have ordered from Amazon.
