ALPHA MOTORSPORTS

Жыл бұрын

In this video we will be assembling an SR20det.
OEM rods and pistons balanced
OEM crank polished and balanced with flywheel and harmonic balanced attached.
ACL main bearings
ACL thrust washers
ACL rod bearings
Tomei I head gasket
ARP head studs
3 angle valve job intake
5 angle valve job exhaust
Super tech valve seals
Super tech valve guides
With this super simple low budget rebuild you can safely make 500hp on e85 if put together correctly and cylinders walls are rust free.

really good video! definitely something to come back to if or when my SR goes out one day. A lot on the block has already had to be hela coiled in strange or crazy ways - including a cam tower threading. Some of the aluminum has straight up dug out over time.

damn!! I bet that rod bolt hit the hell out off the crank. you are suppose to guide the rod down onto the crank and make sure it is aligned, at least put some little pieces of hose on those rod bolts lol

Sick video man. My instructor taught not to lube the mating surface between the block/cap to bearing. Supposely it can contribute to spinning bearings. Only the bearing to journal gets prelude.

@@alphamotorsports5784 if you think about it though, youd have to agree that only surfaces that see friction should have lube on? Otherwise they would have factory oiling provisions to the rear of the bearing
@hilachlan

@@jamesbadham3872correct, oiling behind the main bearings and rod bearings is pointless and a waste of time and lube/grease. however it does not contribute to bearings spinning. bearings have crush and spread so that will lock then into place with the right clearance (even that tang does not contribute to preventing spinning a bearing, simply just locates them)

Awesome video!!! I just found this channel - I wish I had this when I was putting my SR together. I have a simple question about wiring that I haven't been able to get answered. I have a stock s13 that's been in my shed for years. I recently replaced the blown KA with the SR I just rebuilt. I got a Wiring Specialties upper and lower harness. There is a gray female 8-pin connector next to the fuse box near the passenger wheel under the hood; it's next to two other connectors that I read will not be used. The upper engine harness and lower transmission harnesses BOTH have gray male 8-pin male connectors that will fit. Can you tell me which harness is supposed to plug into this connector?

Sorry for the noob question but it’s my first time rebuilding a motor. What exactly do I ask a machine shop to do once I have it disassembled? I’m just looking to make 350hp-400hp, nothing crazy. Are they supposed to do something special to the block and crank or just make sure they’re clean and balanced?

@alphamotorsports5784
@alphamotorsports5784 9 ай бұрын
The point in it is to keep EVERYTHING lubricated. Metal to metal for even a second is bad. When a motor starts up it takes a few or more seconds to properly provide oil to the entire motor. So this helps with that. It’s pretty obvious if you understand the point of oil in an engine.

When you put your main caps in, did yours just slide into place? Because mine (SR20det s13) are super tight going in, and I'm waiting to know if there is a way to locate them properly?
@hilachlan

im not sure if im answering your question right, but ill try. main caps locate in the registers with interference fit which means it should be very tight and can only get them in from tightening the caps down with the bolts

Hey, Fantastic video! I bought a pre-disassembled SR and all the bolts were in 1 bag so I'm glad to know Mazworx offer those. I have a question about the conrod studs. Do you replace them with ARP units or do you keep the ones that came on the rods? You seem to make a lot of power with your builds so your advice is gospel in my books. My build is very similar to this with just nismo bearings, cosworth gasket and ARP head and main studs. So I'm wondering if it's worth upgrading the conrod studs too.
@alphamotorsports5784
@alphamotorsports5784 Жыл бұрын
Love all the Mazworks parts for SR! For the rods I’ve used the same studs never had a problem. The motors walls max out at 450-500hp depending on engines life of fluids such as if it’s had consistent coolant or straight water. Rods, pistons, crank, most of everything on a SR can take 500hp. Fail points are mainly the bearings. You can upgrade bolts if you’d like tho.
@alphamotorsports5784
@alphamotorsports5784 Жыл бұрын
Stock sr can take 450-500hp if done correctly biggest fail points are bearings and oil pressure issue. To answer your question stock works just fine
