Welcome to my review of the OEX Phoxx II v2 budget wild camping tent! I've been using this tent for over 2 years now, and have taken it on more than 30 camping trips.
In this video, I'll share my honest thoughts on the Phoxx, including both the good and the bad. You'll see why I have a love/hate relationship with it, and why it doesn't always make an appearance in my videos. You'll also get a peek at some behind-the-scenes moments, including when my co-host Dave really annoys me while filming.
This isn't your typical list of tent features - it's a real, raw review in my own style. Some of you might love it, some of you might hate it, but either way I hope you enjoy it.

I used this tent on my first wild camp last weekend, it was battered by 50mph winds and rain, it took it amazingly well and stood up to everything Mother Nature threw at it. I will be using it on every camp from now on, such a reliable tent.

Great to hear! It's an amazingly tough bit of kit. Don't think i've ever heard of one being torn in bad weather (only through misuse) and the only damage mine ever took was a snapped guy-line in real bad wind. Good kit, no doubt!

Great review for a small stealthy robust tent, I might buy it for high winds and stealth camps, as for my double walled lan shan 2 old style 1.15kg not the pro, I like that I have modified it 1st lockdown with 8 extra peg points and slept in it in Norway UK with -10C temperature's with inner mesh 3 season inner, as well as 60 mph winds and held well, and better than the lan shan pro for condensation I have had over 60 camps + with 45+ wild camps and fab-sealed it twice and still going strong, I think I am lucky or have been lucky with fabric not tearing in very strong winds on quite a few occasions due to the tent being the older original kiki 3 ul robust version! the height of the lan shan 2 is also fantastic, I wish I had a camo colour, or the khaki for summer stealth camps, that is where the Phoxx might come into play

Good review! I've got the Phoxx 1 V2, cracking little tent for a bikepacker! Not sure why people complain about it's size, unless they're a 'big un'? At 5'11 and 72kg it's plenty for me to crash into, although it's complemented nicely with a little 2x2 tarp. Also bought a Bobcat, it pitches like a dogs back leg, and the inner hangs down like an old pair of drawers, seriously floored design! It's going on ebay, bloody junk!

I agree with the issue of the inner sagging, it’s worst in the phoxx 1, I think a solution would to run a thin line between the two poles and hook the inner to it.

Brilliantly crafted video. I have this tent & the PHOXX 1 v2 and the Bobcat. I would say take the tent that suits the weather you will be experiencing, the PHOXX 1 is great for good weather because you can do everything outside, secondly, when you’re out you want to be outside rather than in a tent, so both the PHOXX 1 & 2 would be ideal. Weight wise? I agree, personal abilities dictates that, for me, I’d rather be comfortable and enjoy the experience rather than get obsessive over lightweight kit. I personally, will be taking this tent (PHOXX 2) on the Cumbria way national trail (78 miles over five days wild camping the entire route) Thanks for the brilliant review 😊
@KernowCamps
@KernowCamps Жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed the review buddy. I hear what you’re saying about having the right shelter for the conditions. I think the Phoxx 1 is far too small for most, little more than a glorified bivvy bag! Hope the Cumbria goes well for you, it’s a trek I’d love to achieve but know it won’t happen for me. Take it easy bud!

How do you find the bobcat? I'm torn between the phoxx and that. I'm not fussed on weight.
@KernowCamps
@KernowCamps Жыл бұрын
@@dansmith1100 honestly, I don’t know which I prefer. While the Phoxx II has more interior floor space for you and your gear in bad weather, the Bobcat has a ground sheet in the vestibule and more height for extended stays indoors. However if you’re comparing the Phoxx I to the Bobcat, I reckon the bobcat wins hands down UNLESS you’re going for stealth, in which case the Phoxx I has the low profile advantage.

Haha - subscribed when I saw the dog. Been looking for another tent. I have a Vaude and a Tarpent - both quite dear - but I got wet in Wales last year and after a tent just for the lovely U.K. and places like Tibet - rather than the Serengeti or Karoo where space is more important as I am allergic to leopards and honey badgers!!! Cheers

Did you come up with a solution for those toggles? I’m thinking of some weak magnets or something, also rigging up some webbing underneath that can be adjusted to make the inner smaller but give more space in the vestibule for cooking, I think Vango does that on some of there tents.
@KernowCamps
@KernowCamps Жыл бұрын
I’ve not come up with a solution. I’ve used magnets to try and sort the same problem on another tent (Naturehike Mongar 2) but found the solution unreliable in anything more than a breeze. I think that depending how you use the vestibule there is ample room. It’s a good storage and cooking space.

Did my first wild camp in this during the summer, the double doors were a godsend as it really helped with airflow. It's about 2kg but when ya consider that is for a 2 person tent albeit quite snug! It's a great deal. I changed the bag it is stored in for a smaller stuff sack, I take out the poles and pegs, allowing me to squash the tent down to a very small pack size. I realy don't see the point in spending another 100 quid or so to get something a bit lighter.
@KernowCamps
@KernowCamps Жыл бұрын
Totally agree about the doors bud. I also separate it into two compression bags, and store the poles and pegs in sepearate areas of of my backpack when out on a hike to camp, makes for better weight distribution and easier to pack, plus keeping wet parts away from dry after a camp. I do this, where possible with all my tents. makes sense. I wish i could have the same "don't see the point in spending" attitude as you, which is why I now have, more-or-less, far too many tents!
