Do women really need men? If so, what for? And what do we want from them? Also: that debate thing, Pride is cancelled to free Palestine, and do women need to have babies for their country?

I learned from my dogs how to do early motherhood! Screw all the hyp, trying to look good have everything looking clean and tidy. My dogs spend time cleaning their pups, feeding them and sleeping and they look supremely happy about it too!

I think maybe it's just hard to be in intimate relationships for that long... I have never understood why it's expected we live with someone. I hate living with other people! I need wayyyy more space than that.. Also it kind of ruins the romance of it all. I don't want to see my partner every day. If intimate relationships were less codependent I wonder if they'd be healthier?

@@meghanemilymurphy Well Meghan my last ex (of 8 years) is a Flight Attendant. She was gone nearly half the month. Not sure there's a right or wrong way? We just find out paths. Some people are built for speed rather than endurance. I think the trick is to be honest with ourselves,and with our partners. Things rarely have to end badly if people are truly honest.

@@justjg my ideal relationship would be long-distance. Like one week on, three weeks off. ish. Then I could have the time to live my life in the way I wish, focus on my work, social life, alone time, routine, reading books alone in restaurants, etc., and the week he was around I could focus on him. It feels like the only way it could work for me.

@@meghanemilymurphy I wonder though, when I read statements like that, if it's simply enviornmental conditioning? IE, who we choose and why? If we choose the same types why would we expect different results for example? Again, not sure there are any right or wrong, answers especially as we get older. I've survived two long term relationships as I turn 60 this month. A 7 and 8 year run. I'm not sure I would want to go for the trifecta although the very first girl I dated when I was 11 and I have a pact that if we're still alive and single at 80 we'd get married. And as we date older people as we age there's usualy tons more baggage to deal with. I have a few friends who have found love again so that gives me hope, but for me it always comes down to honesty between people and hopefully not engaging with people that turn out to be monsters. I think most of us want to be truly loved, and not be alone in this strange world.

@@meghanemilymurphy if you don't pick a CODA person that helps :) Again, some people are built for speed, not endurance when it comes to relationships. Relationships have to evolve and change. They have to be worked on. And if a person decides they've had enough they can end amicably, at least I've found they can.

@@meghanemilymurphyIsn't that "benevolent sexism"? Anything a man does is considered bad anyway, so why should they make the effort when they get slagged off and generalized negatively? If they're attracted to a woman their "objectifying" them, if they approach them they're "harassing" them. Feminists demand men treat women as human beings while at the same time portray them all as porn addicted violent monsters. "men are this, men are that" "men do this wrong, men do that wrong" Respect works both ways you know.

Looks like I missed another good episode. I caught a part of it live. Meghan, maybe the reason sex drops off for you in relationships is because the sex gets boring. Are you doing the same things in the bedroom all the time? When you get to the point where sex wanes, do you and your boyfriend try to introduce new things into the bedroom?
@meghanemilymurphy
@meghanemilymurphy 24 күн бұрын
I don't need gimmicks and plays to enjoy sex. It's not the actual *sex* part that is bad or boring, it's that I don't have the desire to do it with the person in question, usually due to a combination of not feeling respected or connected to the person, but also probably just the fact of their being around all the time, combined with laziness. It's a pretty normal thing for women in long term relationships I think.

By this logic, couples would have to keep escalating to ever more taboo sexual activities to sustain a satisfying sex life. So if you’re in your 80s then you’re doing beastiality orgies or something. I hate it when people say “try new things in the bedroom”. I usually picture having to do things I don’t want to do. My husband and I aren’t bored and we haven’t “tried new things”. My philosophy is do it even when I don’t want to because he always satisfies me, and then every few times I really want to. That’s good enough for me. I have no expectations of being excited about it every time.

38:14 It is always amusing to hear folks (not Meghan or Mary Lou here) talk fondly about the social structures found in animals and conclude that we humans might do better if we emulate that. haha It often comes out sounding like the lions or bears should be our model. I don't know if they have thought that out very far. Do we really want a society where one male violently claims his power to mate with all the women in the group, often killing his rivals in the process? All the females then submit by force? The females do most of the work to provide food, and the male literally takes the "lions share"? haha And then to top it all off, if the dominant male suspects the offspring of the female are not his......he EATS them? Yikes! The animal world, if examined at all closely, is just not what much of anyone would want. But if you do decide to do the animal thing, I suppose the Elephants would be the best model out there. BUT. we ARE human, and that is a wonderful thing. All other creatures just do the same thing as they have always done, over and over, for countless generations, without introspection. We alone, of all living things on Earth, appear to have the power of reason sufficient to deliberately choose our social structures. That doesn't mean each of us can "have it all". Pretty much everyone must come to grips with the world around us, natural and otherwise, and make adult and hopefully wise and adequately selfless decisions in choosing priorities. For most of human history, the demands of survival in the natural world dictated almost everything for almost everyone. "Choice?.......What choice?", was how most felt about their lives. Now, more so than ever, we can choose. But have we come to grips with the trade-offs of those choices. The "perfect freedom" that some seem to be unhappy about not having, simply does not exist,.....and it never will. There are children.....and there are adults.....and then there are adults with children. More and more those seem, to me, to be very different things, and it leads me to a very firm conclusion. Families are a very good thing indeed. For almost everyone.
@meghanemilymurphy

Fair enough. As ML points out, human beings have free will, so can make the choice *not* to behave simply like animals... I suppose I just think it's interesting, when we're being told what's 'natural', to note that things do not work that way, often, in the animal kingdom.

I had c sections (didn't want them) I wanted natural vaginal births but after enduring all that pain and then intense surgery and horrible recovery I also felt proud for that type of surrender to get my babies here safely. While on the table I had to completely surrender myself. I was okay with dying at that point which is always a possibility during a Section. Bringing life into this world is noble no matter if they come out vaginally or not.
