A wonderful family and kids. Caroline's voice and narration is special. I love how the sunlight lit up the cabin, smokehouse, logs and trees at the end of the video. Nice video work. After watching the trip to Arctic Circle I decided that's what I want to do when I get my 4wd drive, hopefully soon.

We lived off grid in the 70s in Washington State, when it wasn’t popular to do so! We just came across your videos yesterday and memories of that time came flooding! We too used an old ringer washer. One day my sister got her hair caught in the ringer and pulled a 4x2 inches of her hair from the root! Ties like the one on Mom’s jacket, would be a target too! The old ringers were great for washing but could be deadly! We processed our own meat, of every kind, and I learned to cook on an old wood cooking stove. Chopped more cords of wool then I could count! This lifestyle is an amazing way to teach our children, however, by the time I was married, we had moved. I was taught many amazing skills because of that time. Lifesaving skills and would be so essential in so many reasons are so lacking with our youth today, but I am thankful for the way I was raised.

Hi,just found your channel,very enjoyable thank you. I use to help my Mother do the washing as an 8 year old using one of those Pope washing machines with the clothes ringer on top. I even got my hand stuck in between the rollers,a lot of fun back then,you just hit the silver arm on the side & it releases the rollers ,so you can get the clothing or your arm back out. We had a big family of 9, so everyone helped.I am now 75 & useing I-phones,I-Pads etc. Thank you for the walk back in time ,Elaine from Queensland ,Australia.

Great seeing the cabin after all this time! Just in case you didn't know, if you leave the steel wire in vinegar it makes a brilliant grey/blue wood stain depending on how long you leave them to react.

You guys should build your firebox outside and away from your smokehouse where the smoke has time to cool before it enters pipes can be put underground as long as the smoke and pipe are on a gradual slope to go into the smokehouse slow but smoky low heat is best for the longterm storage

We like using a piece of chain mail to clean our cast iron. No soap like a scouring pad and it keeps the seasoning. Thanks for including the giggles 🤭

I remember my mom using a wringer washing machine. I was about ten when she contracted poison oak so she couldn't do the wash, so I was enlisted to help. All worked well until when putting her rubber gloves through the wringer I heard bang, bang, bang, bang, and bang! I had put the glove in wrist first and decided that it was so much fun I put the second one through the same way. Mom was NOT impressed!!

I cringe watching him climb that tower. I got scared. I remember my brother who had an accident falling from a tower doing repair of the tv antenna and he broke his arm and spine. He struggle a lot with his therapy for years. Thankfully he made it through and able to walk again. Just wear protective gear, or a harness next time. Better be safe than sorry. Thank you for sharing and you all be safe always.
