That pump, while much smaller brought back memories of a remote site I was stationed at in the Army. We would pump water out of a well up a very large hill to refil our water container (blivet). Fortunately we only had to do that two or three times a month. Never needed an on demand water heater though. That water heating up in that container all day got very warm, almost too warm. I did love that view towards the end. I could imagine being in a hot tub with that,, view.
@Whiskeyjack17713 жыл бұрын
Prime your hose before attaching it to the pump. Toss out the end with the check valve, then just submerse the pump end of the hose and lift it up to get out the air bubbles. Repeat until the hose is filled, then attach it. You will need very little water to prime the pump head at that point, and you won't get the burping that forces you to prime the pump multiple times. Just found your videos today, and am really enjoying them.
@indydave1955 Жыл бұрын
The way you primed simply poured water into the lake, leaving the hose full of air. Try making some kind of jig to hold the lake end up level with the pump end so when you pour in the water it fills the hose (without it emptying into the lake), then connect to the pump and THEN lower the other end into the lake. I think that should work. You may need boots so you can walk it out rather than throw the hose into the lake.

The water pump we had in the 60's looked like a air compressor and would turn on automatically when like you said built up pressure. We didn't drink the water from the lake but cooked with it, washed dishes and took showers. We also put in a toilet after we dug and installed a drain field and septic tank. I dug the hole which took most of the summer. The pump kept pressure up to the cabin and would kick on once the water was being used. it was a belt electrical driven pump.

I don’t know what the regulations are at your local but when I built 4 cabins and a bath house in Alaska I used a extendahoe back hole and dug a vertical hole about 15 ft.deep which filled to about 6 feet from ground surface then I put a 36 inch by 20 ft. culvert vertically (no bottom and slotted sides down low)in the hole and carefully back filled around the culvert. I then drilled a one inch hole in the side of the culvert about seven ft down to run a PEX line below frost line to the bath house and put the pump and press tank in he crawl space. Then I used a gas pump to pump out the culvert til it ran clear. I had the water tested and all worked great.

(If you still have the "too big" hot tub) Use 4" foam insulation to build a structure to take up half or more of the volume. You'll need a deck above so when you fill with (half as much) water the foam won't float up. The water pressure will be 1500 pounds or so so the deck needs strong anchoring. Now you'll need half the wood to get it hot! You could make it with logs instead of foam, and that would have less upward pressure...or even rocks...but the foam could be easily removed if you have a lot of guests.

As someone who personally hauled water 35 gallons at a time, every 2 (two) or 3 (three) day's for well over 2 (two) plus years. Circa mid1980's. The one thing I learned by ACCIDENT (paid for brand new WHITE FOOD GRADE BUCKET{S}) is that the sunshine penetrated the white buckets, and would cause algae (slim of the walls / sides of the buckets) to begin to grow. Would require cleaning every third or fourth refill. But the one black bucket I received during my purchase (because not enough white buckets were available at the time, and boy was I VERY UPSET @ the time,) never encountered any algae {not even a hint of algae} in my single "black-bucket," during all of that time, of hauling water. Some time during the first year, late that year, switched to all black buckets. Problem (of algae growth) solved. I mention this only to point out by keeping your water in a dark (black) colored tank, you will less likely have any such problems, not because of the "TYPE PLASTIC," your tank is made of. Love the mining cars. Thanks for sharing. I'm jealous, your dog's help out more than my four-legged son Samson. He just watches. LOL.

BETTER TO not have the lake end sitting on the bottom but suspended 2 feet from it to avoid sucking up undesirables like dead things and heavy metals that reside on the bottom. Test your water. Waiting to see if you get sick is not the best plan.

A tip for the pump, somewhere close to the lake, put a valve on the line running up to your tank and when your done pumping, simply close the valve leaving water in the line, when you go to refill the tank the next time there will be just a little water left in the line so that when you go to prime your pump you just have to open the valve to let the water left in the lines to prime the pump and hose. All you would have to do is simply hold the end of your intake valve up to get the one way valve to burp the air out of the line and pump

I pump from a creek to a pond. I got tired of the setup like this and unsuccessfully priming the pump so I made a setup for water to drain into submersible well pump.
@stanleykeith69693 жыл бұрын
I would take the end of the hose that is in the lake and have some type of float that it holds the end just under the water and up off of the bottom of the lake. You need to prime that Blue hose and make sure it has water in it. Better water, and the bleach is a good idea. Get yourself some starting fluid to help start the pump.
@michygoss71483 жыл бұрын
This was a suggestion from someone else too. The problem is that our blue hose has a bunch of pin holes in it, so it needs to be submerged or air will get in (or at least that is what I think). So I try and submerge the hose to eliminate that possibility.
@KTSLAY3 жыл бұрын
I anchored our lake line with a 5gal bucket. Drilled 2 holes through the sides close to the top and ran the pipe through. Filled the bucket with rock and put it about 20' deep. Keeps the filter off the bottom. Put a valve on your tank line where you connect your pump so it stays full of water. No more priming.

PSA: All "clean" rivers, streams and lakes mostly likely have giardia in them. Especially in the Northern latitudes. If you have ever had giardiasis, you would gladly put a quarter cup of chlorine, chloranimide or bleach in that 2500 gallon tank.
