Join me at my cabin in the woods for some off grid quilting! I'll be piecing these fun String blocks using my hand crank sewing machine. Such a fun block to make - and uses all those leftover strips.

My grandmother made all of my dresses on a treadle Singer when I was a child. She didn't have an electric machine until the 60's. Wish I had the space for one!

You can always add a hand crank to an old iron machine. I had one with a bad motor and swapped it out for a crank. It sews just as lovely!

I, too own a hand crank sewing machine % it’s a Spartan/Singer 99. Thought I was crazy when I found it as I’m not the most coordinated person on the planet, but found out thst it’s very easy to manage! Haven’t used her for quite awhile but I think I just might start taking her to my guild sewing day! The Spartan machines never came with any kind of cover so maybe I need to make a cute one first!!!

Wow. What a great idea making these blocks!!! I think I could use regular baking parchment paper. It doesn't have wax i checked. I'll cut my own squares. Thank you very much.

I had a sadiron on my woodstove! Not perfect, but not too bad. I realized when I was editing the video I mentioned an iron and didn't explain.

Hand crank machine is so cool! Why do you use the paper? Why not just sew the strips together???
@littlefootquiltshoppe1130
@littlefootquiltshoppe1130 17 күн бұрын
Great question! You can....however because of the different size/widths of strips, it can be very challenging to create a square block without some sort of foundation. But feel free to experiment!!!! There's no 'one way' to do things!!

I was given a very old hand turn sewing machine as a child and have many happy memories of using it. Later, after serious illness, I took up patchwork ,eventually going on to teach patchwork for 25years. So many happy memories all starting from my little sewing machine.
