n Boer maak n plan! I'm sitting here in Spain trying to make a thermsyphon unit using wood chip as my heat exchanger and after watching half a dozen other nationalites brag about their efforts without actually explaining much I find a fellow South African who clarifies it perfectly! Thanks boetie

Hi Sarah, Dankie. Waardeer. I can't brag about this one yet, still a mission to get the convection right using only the sun (so little margin with the minor temp diffs). Would love to hear more about your project.

I know it's months after this video and I'm sure it's been iterated a lot, but perhaps wrapping the tank in silver foil (like the blankets they use for hypothermia) for insulation etc as well

Doesn't matter how old the video is, always lovely to get replies. You have a great idea there. Perhaps the siselation type stuff will work. Your idea will save the tank from heat and uv damage. Woo

@@SimpleEarthSelfReliance I'm sure siselation will - just thinking of cost effective ways to improve a good system, and it definitely beats building some sort of structure with walls and a roof. If you don't mind the comments I'll leave them as they come to me 🤷‍♂️

This is so cool and the best thing about 0.1 revisions is iterate iterate iterate! Imagine 3.0 after all the testing. I hope to visit soon! Did you manage to connect the cold and warm supplies with a hot-cold swivel tap for the shower? You might pick up pressure issues doing that. Instead stick to two way mixing.

Thanks for the comment, Joe! I have it booked up to mix, but there delta between the hot barrel and the tank is about 20m, so even if the cold water is only a tiny bit open, it pushes to the barrel. I will have to normalise the pressure. Version 1.1 problem !

This is a GREAT little video and you just gave me an amazing idea! I'm getting right to the drawing board.

you should insulate the tank....

Definitely. I think I mentioned this as a bonus in the video. But since this is a trial, not going to put a lot of effort into it until the design feels right 🤠

Use black barrells

Indeed an upgrade. I was contemplating the option of either insulation or black paint. Problem is that once the temperature gets to threshold, the thermosiphon stops. Thanks for stopping by, appreciate.

Haha greetings from Van Wyksdorp!! This is a great idea, thanks. We've been looking for a similar solution for our place. Any chance you'd be willing to consult? 😃

Hi Jaco. Sekerlik. We go visit Hendrik at the Mall often for coffee. Perhaps we can meet there, have a cup and discuss ! I need to do an update video, already learnt a few lessons about location and weather. Like any solar geyser, in days like today it works very poorly. A backup system is great to have (rocket mass heater or donkie or gas geyser).looking forwards. Geniet die reën!
