In this video I detail how we handle our solid human waste, without a septic tank, compost pile or incinerator toilet. Look for my other videos about my toilet setup and another video showing this burn about 30 minutes in. Aggressive flame!

This is way better than those expensive incinerator toilets that I’ll never be able to afford, thank you very much for sharing. I’m also not really interested in composting unless it’s vermicomposting. I would like to get a septic tank eventually but it’s not a priority right now.

Maybe replace the pvc pipe with a perforated steel pipe or roll a piece of screen into a same size pipe? Just leave the perforated pipe in place to hold sawdust back with open center? Maybe throw some of your waste engine oil in the layers lol

I have added waste oil before as well as sensitive documents for security reasons. I tried a rolled up piece of 1/2" hardware cloth but it disrupts airflow to the point of being excessively smokey.

2nd Comment: Might using a cylinder of rolled expanded metal down the center hold a "chimney" better? Expanded metal provides support, handles the heat, and restricts clumps from falling, thereby choking the flamefront. Just a suggestion. 😊

I do add paper with sensitive information in the center to keep it flaming until it's self sustaining. The biggest obstacle is keeping the center column open for maximum airflow. Sometimes the sawdust can fall in and block the primary air inlet. If there's enough clearance underneath you can clear away any blockage and the extreme radiant heat downward will sanitize/burn the fall off.

I have added some used oil and similar fluids between the layers as an accelerant. Once it comes up to Temp, it's pretty self sustaining. The sawdust keeps the process a little less objectionable. I've seen video of the jet fuel method, the constant stirring didn't appeal to me. 😷🫤

Video quality tips: An external microphone, especially a clip on one, would help dramatically. Also, don't be afraid of simple editing or changing the environment. Unlikely, the toilet itself is based on batch loads. You could use some sort of auger in a pipe to convey the sawdust and excrement to a separate holding tank. That's a lot more of a build than I'm willing to attempt. I only have to do this method of burning once every 5-6 weeks. The toilet bucket is switched out a couple times per week for 2 people.

Great video, thank you and can I make a suggestion? Would it be possible for you to put that thing on a slightly elevated metal cart with wheels so you can roll it out from under an elevated toilet??? And then you can simply boil liquids like a tea kettle before burning the solid waste inside???? I am looking for a way to just roll my incinerator out from under the bathroom and be rid of shavings, leaves, chips, urine seperators... just use the toilet like normal life with toilet paper and all and then boil the liquids out before burning the rest. My idea involves lathe and incasing the barrel in fire proof mortar, though... you know those metal grate flat bed carts you pull at the plant nursery? I'm thinking of some kind of dolly system like that.

I do have a designated shelter with good ventilation to keep them until I'm ready to burn them. The majority of the contents of the buckets are mostly the sawdust cover material anyway. So nothing too objectionable. Porta potties in my experience are far less sanitary than what I deal with every six weeks or so.

2 questions: Let's say today is "dump" day, the day you take a dump. How many days does it need to "dry" before you can burn it in the barrel? If your 5 gal. bucket is now "full" after today's deposit, do you let it dry out somewhere, somehow before adding it to the burning barrel?
@amicusfirepits
@amicusfirepits 3 жыл бұрын
Actually, human feces is over 90% moisture and basically nitrogen so technically the poo itself doesn't burn. The cover material (pine wood shavings) serves as the fuel source to sterilize and dehydrate the waste. Afterwards the ash is dumped on a compost pile. I hope this answers your question. As to the time frame, I don't have a specific drying period. Some of the buckets are 5 weeks old and others less than 5 days.

Nugget: I eat a 100% carnivore diet and poop only a tiny amount about every 9 days. I have done this for 3 years. I enjoy robust health and do not gain weight. In fact, in 3 years, I have lost over 100 pounds and kept it off.

Q about the urine youve diverted, then what... Do you let that evaporate somewhere, or cook it to evaporate it, or have an area where you dump it on the ground?
@amicusfirepits
@amicusfirepits 7 ай бұрын
My urine diverting toilet drains into an underground plumbing system that combines it with our grey water. It's held in a buried 40 gallon drum and that gets pumped up to an elevated leech mound. Each time the pump cycles it delivers 2 gallons to the mound. The sloped discharge pipe then drains back to prevent freezing in winter.

When they work, incinerating toilets don't use that much energy, although they are more pricey than they should be. While this process may be effective, keeping buckets of dung around isn't something I'd really want to do. Also, seems like it takes a lot more time and energy for this option than using an incinerating toilet (not to mention the state where I live prohibits "burn" barrels), which is essentially what this is. We also have burn bans, which prohibit ANY kind of burning - even recreational.
@amicusfirepits
@amicusfirepits Жыл бұрын
If it ever came down to not being able to burn, I'd switch to composting. I believe I have the appropriate mix of carbon to nitrogen for that to work. Generally it takes a minimum of 6 months to make it safe as a fertilizer. That's going to need a lot more buckets, close to 60 in rotation unless I just create a large singular pile. The upside to having a pile would be the heat generated. Could use that heat in winter to warm the house or greenhouse.

My toilet has a urine diverter. That along with all my grey water flows to a buried drum and a pond fountain pump delivers 2 gallons at a time to an elevated leech mound. Not very well thought out poorly executed attempt at protecting the environment from inoculation of disease vectors thus creating an incubation area of human disease infection. The initial collection storage and transport will allow time and opportunity for incubation and migration. Many of the larger vectors will quickly develop and translocate freely. Microscopic vectors will travel through air column and evaporation. Quite frankly, holding the human waste in any environment where incubation or translocation within the human use areas should have a minimum exposure time limit. Seconds is ideal, minutes are moderately risky and hours are unacceptable. The disease vectors excreted from human waste need to be dispersed quickly and efficiently into an adequately sized environment not utilized by humans and domestic animals. Think dilution. Or the waste must be incinerated immediately without potential for inhalation or other dispersal into the open environment. The initial start up of the demonstrated incinerator revealed that disease vectors and loads of fertile eggs would be blown about the human use areas. ✌️♥️👍
