They've been a little bad lately going across the road so much and I did get upset at them a few times this week. Today was particularly bad because it was so windy and they couldn't even hear me calling for them. I found that bringing their treats over there really helped me get them back without yelling this time. I think I will continue to do that; however we do probably need a bigger fenced in area for days like today! I'm so sorry to hear about your husband - I know what you mean about working outside being therapeutic. It is for me too and that's why a small house doesn't bother me, I spend so much time outside! I wish you could put photos in here too! I'd love to see your setup but I do have a good imagination and love your description. Hauling our water wasn't bad, it was the most beautiful spot to go to 3 times a week... right on the Brule River. We were so thankful to have a public artesian well only 7 miles from our house, never can take water for granted. Your system sounds amazing, a tank to supply your kitchen sink and shower! Awesome. I don't know how you fit a 50 gallon tank under your kitchen sink though? We plan to put a 5 gallon jug under there when we get our kitchen sink hand pump and I don't think too much more would fit under there. Thanks for the idea on a magnet heater, someone else said this too. I've never tried pickled eggs, I think it would be awesome to try it. I love pickles, sweet or dill , so I'd love to give pickled eggs a try. It is a bit of a process, at least from what I've seen - but probably worth it since so many people do it. This is only our second spring with the chickens so I think as time goes on and if we get so many, I'll have to definitely expand into more ways of preservation! We use one in lake of the woods in our 16ft house. Transmission, propane froze up, 35 below woke up to 20 degrees. Start the generator plug in worked. Love you guys channel. No more network for me, only off grid, fishing, out door stuff. Rather give you a watch. Keep it going.

I like your idea of concrete pavers behind the woodstove to hold heat... it's coming up here soon where we'll have to let the woodstove go out during the day, probably even tomorrow. I don't know how you usually do it?... but we usually keep a fire going all winter and don't let it go out, March 1 is early to be letting it go out during the day. Of course, better that than get it like a sauna in here, Nice to save on wood though. Definitely appreciating the sunny days, really those have been great. Same here we keep the stove going all winter and I usually load it 2-4 times per day depending on the weather. When it’s in the upper 40-50’s usually just need one evening fire and the cabin stays comfortable til the next evening. Like you said some times we have a sauna cabin and need to open a few windows 😂. We have a propane wall heater like yours but don’t like to use it unless we need a quick take the chill off or leave for a couple days. I don’t like the smell and wood is cheaper than propane.

@@wobdeehomestead1464 With having just the one evening fire, I'm assuming the fire burns out by morning? And then you just start a new fire the next evening? Sorry for all the questions... just generally curious. I think this is what I plan on doing tomorrow. We thought that buying a really big woodstove would allow us to just add a bunch of wood and leave it be till the next day but unfortunately that's not the case, we can't just load it up once and expect it to stay lit for 24 hours unless we want it to be a sauna cabin, lol! I know what you mean about the propane heater, not a good smell and wood is cheaper. I would agree. Thanks for your comments.

Yes I have to build a brand new fire every evening. My stove can go 12+ hours and still have enough coals to just load her up again but not 24 hours. I found using Sure Start fire starting squares work great, no kindling required. Just load up and place a square at the lower front of the pile and she takes off great. There are stoves out there that will burn low and slow for over 24 hours but they’re crazy expensive! Look up Blaze King, I had one many years ago and their claimed burn times are true.

You know, it's funny you say that because I just ready that the other day on a University Extension website. They said, the best way to preserve eggs is to either pickle them or to freeze them. Glad you like the water setup! The pump is called Bison Deep Well Pump. I think you might be able to order it straight from Bison, if not, you'll have to go through a dealer. We had our well driller order it for us. I would highly recommend this pump though... it's amazing and we've had it for 8 years hand pumping and hauling in all our own water. It gets a bit challenging some days, like when you're tired, but for the most part it's nice to spend the time outside and appreciate the water! Good luck on ordering the pump - I hope you find it and it works out. If you live in a freezing climate you'll want to drill a weep hole below the frost line so that the water drains and doesn't freeze into the hand pump. Well it's for a few different reasons really - we have it setup this way for now and when we get some more money down the road we will certainly be making some more convenient upgrades. I do think we enjoy it though, I mean some days it can be a total pain but for the most part it is just nice to do it as a reminder of how valuable that resource is. That is something we hope to do soon so we can fill up our water tank outside for watering the garden and things. We didn't see it as necessary right away but always new we'd eventually want to get the submersible. One day! Thank you so much for watching! Take care.

We don't yet have our woodshed built - coming hopefully soon, at least something simple with a tin roof. We don't like using tarps because they rip when we get snow and ice. We've went through a lot of tarps! We move the firewood up to the log cabin with plenty of time for it to dry it's outer surface underneath the awning. The interior of the wood is very dry, not green wood, so it burns good. Thank you so much for commenting!
