We built this sauna building and installed a sauna kit from Superior Sauna. The kit was very complete and easy to install. We have had it for a couple of years now and love it. If you have any questions post them below and I'll do my best to get back with you.

That's a nice little set up you have! The two tier seating is key... although a little small, I'm sure it's cozy if it's just the two of you. As a sidenote - "Sauna" is actually Finnish (where the concept originates from)

Beauty of a build. What would your suggestions be for a simple solar powered light that feeds directly wired into the sauna area....are any heat friendly?
@jetporter
@jetporter 4 жыл бұрын
Nice little Sauna. I'm building one right now, almost done except the cedar, which is on order at the lumberyard. I didn't do any solar or electric but other than that very similar to yours. I also made my entrance door swing inward but for a different reason. Stupidly I used plans for an 8x12 garden shed and put large gables on it. The original shed wasn't meant to have much overhang. When it came time to hang the door I realized it had to open inward because otherwise it would hit the eave on the outside. D'oh! Oh well, I have some Finn friends and they are going to be happy to Sauna in my place even if the door is "stupid". Don't worry about what that guy down there thinks. Yes, the door might be better opening outwards. But only a fool would complain.

Great looking sauna, and property too! Is the floor just the concrete slab under those wood tiles? Is there a floor drain? How long does it take to heat up? Good work
@5yearplan269
@5yearplan269 7 жыл бұрын
Jeffrey Southern thanks for watching! It is a concrete "Alaskan slab" under the wood tile. There is no floor drain. Thought I would need one but it never gets that dirty that I would ever have to hose it out. It takes about 45 minutes to reach 140f. Let me know if you need anymore info.

This looks great, nice build. I like the solar panel idea. Just to confirm what I think you were explaining that the sauna section is cedar and the changing room is pine? If so, that sounds like a great money saver, one I've been trying to come up with. As a side note, most Finnish saunas don't use cedar.

$6000-$10000 depending on how much you are able to do yourself. I started out with the kit and got a price from Superior Sauna then went from there. They also have a full building kits that may give you a better price comparison. Good luck and thanks for watching!.

Fantastic;.could you please describe the process of putting the floors? Did you just put tile ontop of the plywood floor shed? Did you insulate with durock? Is it cement? Thanks! I wana build something just like yours.
@5yearplan269
@5yearplan269 3 жыл бұрын
joel gheiler the floor is cement. It was poured as a single Alaskan style slab. Alaskan style just means the footings are poured with the slab and not so deep. I did put insulation under the slab before it was done. Then the floor wood tile sections that I got with the kit just click together. Hope this helped. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for watching. The Sauna was not a kit from Superior. I sent them plans for the size sauna that I wanted and they provided the material. So it was kind of a custom kit. Best thing to do is contact them and tell them the dimensions of your building area and they will assist you from there. Hope this helps! Thanks again for watching!

5 Year Plan sure does. Thank you. What is the max temp you can get and can you regulate from inside sauna?
@5yearplan269
@5yearplan269 6 жыл бұрын
Max temp we have had it is 185-190F. Im sure it would get hotter but that is good for us especially if you add some water to the rocks and steam it up. Only way to regulate the fire is from the outer section of the sauna by using the draft. If it is to hot we simply open the door for a few. Once you get it around the temp you want it then we just keep a couple of small logs on the fire to maintain the temp.

How long do the lights last at night after a day of charging, does the solar charge last awhile? Now that you've used this system for a few years would you change anything with regard to the solar panel setup?
@5yearplan269

The lights have never gone out on us. We normally only have them on for about 4 hours maximum. I’ll do a test this weekend and see if they will stay on all night and let you know what happens. (Good idea for a video) I won’t change anything because it’s been working great! Hope this helps,Thanks for watching.

I'm planning to build a similar Sauna to yours. Did you use 2x4 or 2x6 framing?
@5yearplan269
@5yearplan269 6 жыл бұрын
Its all 2x4. Even the roof. With the metal roof the snow slides right (sometimes persuaded with a snow rake) off so no worry about snow load. Let me know if you have more questions. Thanks for watching.

5 Year Plan Thanks. Does the Sauna warm up quickly in winter? (I'm in Canada and plan to use my Sauna year round).
@5yearplan269
@5yearplan269 6 жыл бұрын
We use ours year round as well! I prefer to use it in the winter more myself. Yes it does heat up quickly. In the winter with outdoor temps at -17 celsius it takes about 45-60 minutes and your ready for a run with temps at 65-72 celsius. I have done it faster by loading the heater with really dry wood and just letting it rip. The concrete floor of course stays cold but that doesn't effect the temps as much as you would think. Let me know if you have anymore questions or want to see more specifics in another video.

Ruvim V thanks for watching. The slab is an "Alaskan style" slab. 12" thick on the outside edges and 4" thick in the middle. The floor we just left concrete and used the wood tiles that Superiorsaunas sells to cover the areas in front of the benches. Hope this helps, thanks for watching.

thinking about doing the same at my NY upstate house near a creek surrounded by trees. Worried about summer humidity causing mold and other deterioration if not used often. Any comment? How does Superior Sauna stand up to element in a non-weather-controlled environment?
@5yearplan269
@5yearplan269 3 жыл бұрын
Jun Zhong we haven’t had any problems with any mold. We have only used it twice this summer. We like to use it more in the fall and winter months so most summers it’s not used that much. We are located almost dead center of the Adirondacks. Not sure if this may help to compare humidity..... some people call the Catskills upstate. Hope this helps, Thanks for watching!
