Explore with us though the beach, forests and rivers in Ocala National Forest near Daytona Beach, Florida to catch one of the best places to off-road in Florida. Joining us for this trip is catfish noodler Hannah Barron and her dad, to learn off-road skills that will get them to their next great catch! To take them on this trip around Florida, Cole came with his Toyota 4Runner TRD Offroad. Its suspension has been upgraded with BC Racing coilovers, and with Nitto Mud Grappler tires, it has more than enough to make it through the sand and water.

Hannah, on the other hand, came with a stock Ford Ranger on Nitto Terra Grappler G2s. Despite the lack of upgrades, her vehicle is perfect for this kind of wheeling, and the Nitto tires will help her get the grip she needs through the sand.

The day starts at Ormond Beach, just north of Daytona. This beach is one of the few you can actually drive your own vehicle on, so if you’re ever in the area with a four-wheel drive vehicle, it’s a fun way to get out on the sand.
The team then makes their way to the trailhead in Ocala National Forest, before driving along a sandy trail with Hannah learning some new off-roading skills.
After breaking for lunch, they reach St. John’s River, where Hannah goes fishing with her dad.
Then right before the end of the day, they take a detour to some deeper water crossings for a few minutes to see how Hannah does in the stock Ranger.

Hanna is a really lovely women. I love that accent. Now, I know what Ocala National Forest has to offer. I've been wanting to go there for years. It's a shame that I haven't been there, but worked in Ocala for many years too.

I lived in the ocala national forest for a while in the early 2000s. There are some beautiful places there. The sand in the big scrub will swallow a truck though. It isn't far from Alexander springs

I’m in the Altoona area and to go out into the forest. Usually by myself but many wish I had a few others for a trail ride for safety reasons.....

Nobody from the tread lightly group going to say, if you have to drive around you shouldn't be there? Public land closed all the time because one mud hole in the road turns to a road at the mud hole 50 feet or more wide!

Seems some of the locals build their own mud holes for the 4 wheelers and such. One out near Altoona/439 area that was so deep with underwater garbage that even big trucks were getting stuck or damaged.

Volusia county. There’s driving from Granada (SR40) and A1A down to Ponce Inlet with several no driving zones along the way. It picks back up south of the inlet through New Smyrna Beach to almost Canaveral National Seashore. But, you have to get back on the main road and take about a 15-20 minute drive to get there.

Just pull up to the toll booth and pay the attendant (cash or card). Google Volusia County Beach pass and it’ll give you all the particulars like fees and other rules. And there are a LOT of rules.

I can’t imagine owning, driving or wheeling a v6 Tacoma or 4Runner in muddy Florida. Weird. I guess if you’ve never experienced the power and song of a v8 it’s possible.

LOL what? Most of the best 4x4 offroad vehicles are 6 cylinders. Wranglers, Land Cruisers, Discovery's, Bronco's, etc.....I've gone places in my Tacoma and Bronco that V8's couldn't even get through.

Clearly, you know nothing about 4x4'ing its not the vehicle it's the setup! tires,winch etc. That 4runner will destroy your land cruiser stock any day of the week including Sundays!
