I wanted to make a climbing net for a child's playground. After researching some knots and an eBay purchase of soft rope, here's how I went about it.

At first, I thought this was a stupid idea, but you convinced me. Selfmade with the desired qualities and properties: size, elasticity, material. Just buy the rope and make it in the size you need. One could search for weeks in the shops around to find what one wants. Well done. You encouraged me to reengage in DIY ... Thx a lot!

This is perhaps best tutorial I’ve seen, I feel confident I can make this! I’m not making for anyone to climb or I might not be so confident! Seriously thank you for taking the time to teach others what you do so well.

Thank you for the instructions! Especially feeding the ropes through each other. Custom-sized net, 50x90cm (6x12 ropes; bought 30m rope overall), made by complete novice in 1 1/2 hours :) came out quite symmetrical, even though I made it on the living room floor and not in such a cool workshop as you have. Good to keep in mind that the knots take up a LOT of rope length.

Best tutorial out there. Clear and precise. Only missing the instructions of how to calculate the amount of rope to buy, but it can be figure out. Thank you!

my best bet would be to tie a knot, mark it when it starts and ends, unravel the knot and measure the length of rope between both markings ;)

Hi, thanks for the great video! Did you splice the horizontal or the vertical runs and does it matter which one to splice?
@OfftheGridMakes2 жыл бұрын
Doesn't really matter. Ideally you would do them all!
@davo777713 жыл бұрын
Awesome! Thanks Mak. So how much longer do you make the rope lengths than finished lengths desired? Knots must use up more than you think...
@fckmunch3 жыл бұрын
Measure your rope before and after tying a knot. Multiply the difference by how many squares down you need.

How would you do the finish loops if you didn't have or used any wire?
@OfftheGridMakes2 жыл бұрын
Leave enough length and use an eye splice. I didn't leave enough, so that's why I resorted to the wire!
@looneygooner19603 жыл бұрын
rather than the end clamps an eye splice would be easier, if you use the metal clamps then it should have a binding over it
@OfftheGridMakes3 жыл бұрын
Yep, but rope was too short :-|
@colutuber2 жыл бұрын
Well done video however, why not splice the ends as it's stronger?

Great tutorial for the cargo netting, but its a really stupid solution to tie a hitch on the end of your ropes ends with a wire. Overengineered and slow, just tie a knot on the end geez louise
@OfftheGridMakes2 жыл бұрын
Yea but I just didn't leave enough rope on the ends for splicing or tying a knot - so I improvised1

Sorry but I think there is a serious risk of strangulatio or hanging with a small child whose head can go through the mesh.
@paris-elizabethfreeman94775 ай бұрын
Valid concern, personally Id just make the mesh small enough to prevent that.
@BroodykayBroodyfour5 ай бұрын
I agree you could adjust the netting but also you could just watch your kids.....we played one these as kids and no one ever got strangled.
