Today's review takes us just north of Canyonlands National Park and Dead Horse Point State park to an overlook of the Green River known as Mineral Point. This is a secluded and rather easy trail and one that we took our stock 2500HD pickup on. So if you are looking for a secluded overland spot in the busy Moab area, this is one to consider.

We did this route a few days after this video was posted. The drop into wash near the end of the route that the video shows at about the 3:50 mark has been washed out below the step. The drop/step is now about 24"-36", making it a 4-5 rating for that portion of route. There is also big gouges in the rock where vehicles have bottomed out trying to go over it and some smaller rocks were piled up below the 'step' where other vehicles had built it up to get back over it. The good news is that you can walk from there, or take a detour to a shorter spot not far away.

I should have walked. How was the view? I need to try it again with the LX instead of the truck!!

@@ForgottenWaypoints It was a good view, but not as good as the Wedge Overlook that we saw the day prior. BTW, I did the route in a 4Runner Trail edition with the TRD tires (standard size off-road tires and no extra lift) and although I probably could have gotten down the step, I was travelling solo and wasn't confident I could get back out on my own and didn't want to chance it without an additional vehicle.

I just picked an ‘08 GX, and am (hopefully) a few weeks away from getting my FJ40 back in running condition. I live in Orem and if you ever need a 2nd rig on a new road I’d be happy to join ya!

@@ForgottenWaypoints me too 😂. It was my high school rig. Sold to my neighbor when I left on my mission. Bought it back awhile ago in much worse condition. I’ve been very slowly putting it back together. I’m planning a Thursday - Saturday get it done weekend in the next couple weeks. Getting the GX and hitting the dirt pushed me over the edge to wanting it done.

Appreciate you putting this informative content out there. Curious, do you think 32" tires and a 2" lift on a 2020 FX4 Ford Ranger would be capable of doing something in the 4 difficulty range? I have experience in moderately technical trails in a LR Discovery, but it wasn't my own vehicle so it changes things! Your videos have done a great job in showing the importance of wheel base and approach/departure angles, which is my concern for the Ranger.
@ForgottenWaypoints
@ForgottenWaypoints 3 жыл бұрын
With all trucks it depends on the trail. Your biggest knock is breakover angle caused by the long wheelbase. If the trail is long wheelbase friendly, I believe those specifications will work. I'm not familiar with the Ranger, but I've seen trucks in that class tackle fins and things and Imogene Pass for example.

Love the videos, quick question. What size tires do you have on the Disco on some of your older videos? They look perfect proportion wise and seem serviceable on and off road
@ForgottenWaypoints
@ForgottenWaypoints 3 жыл бұрын
Disco is on 2" OME and 265/75/r16

And you are correct, I loved that setup! I've heard it's a bit too short for The Rubicon, but it can do a lot of technical trails in that setup without much highway compromise

@@ForgottenWaypoints followed your advice and went with that tire size. It really looks factory with the lift and tires. Only question now is how to fit the rear spare as the stock bumper doesn’t have the clearance
@ForgottenWaypoints
@ForgottenWaypoints 3 жыл бұрын
@@mountainbikegiant , look into flipping the tire holder. That is what many have done. Mine fits barely because my spare is extremely worn, but flipping the bracket should give you the clearance you need.

Recently found your Channel. My little family and I would have loved to join this trip. We ride in a 2015 wrangler with a 4” lift on 35” tires.

Do you think my 1998 Jeep xj with a 2 inch lift and 30 inch tires would be able to do a 4 or a 5? I plan on disconnecting to rear sway bar sometime an can disconnect to front one easily enough before starting a trail.
@ForgottenWaypoints
@ForgottenWaypoints 3 жыл бұрын
Front sway bar disconnected will help, the rear can stay connected at your current setup. What is the quality of the rubber on your tires? A 4 is possible, so is a 5 depending on how you want to push it. Tell your dad that if you cook, we can do elephant hill (4) or devil's racetrack (5) sometime.
