As a younger orks specifically scratch builder - a helpful tip if you aren't precise/good at it, get some hot glue and foam, cut the foma into shape of the thing and glue it on the inside, it's how I did a lot of my smaller vehicles, as it's easy to have strong shape that way.

Beautiful scratch builds and a really accessible video. Talking if lore, in Gaunts Ghosts I think all the trucks are a "Cargo- number if wheels" lol
@TheMichaellathrop8 ай бұрын
That's impressive, more so because you've created a process that other people can actually follow that for the creation of a piece of art that no one will be able to mimic who isn't already skilled enough to make on with out help in the first place. What I would like to know is about how expensive would you say one of these trucks is in terms of the styrene and resin bits etc?
@OffbeatBuilds8 ай бұрын
Thank you kindly! As for cost, it's hard to quantify exactly, but I'd say averaged over the 5 trucks it's worked out at around £10 per Truck. The wheels are the biggest expense, with the Zinge wheels costing £7.50 for 6. The styrene is dirt cheap, even factoring in buying the tubes and other profiles. That's the nice thing about scratchbuilding stuff like this, once you have a small stock of materials, the cost of the each build is tiny.

@@OffbeatBuilds I have a friend who does a lot of 3d printing, if I wanted to do this wheels and greebles would be really cheap.

That's just me, though, my brain goes to gretchin and snotlings for almost all ork tech. Tripod? Oi, 'old dis. Toilet paper? Oi, snotlin'... Microwave? Oi, get dis 'ot or I'll bite yer nose off. Printer? Oi, you, write dis dahn... Pouffe? Oi, bend over and 'old me feet up. Telescope? Oi, get dat, bring dat 'ere.

It's honestly weird the Imperial Guard don't have a Dedicated Transport that's just...a truck. Yes, they have the Chimera. But that's basically a tank that's being used as a ferry. Good for driving men into the thick of the action, but not as cost-effective. Whereas a truck could be commandeered from any civilians and used to move troops/supplies around. Uses less metal, too. It makes no sense that both Orks and Genestealer Cults have access to trucks - heck, even desert convoys on Necromunda - yet the Imperial Guard don't.

Great video, you do amazing work! What size magnets do you use with the 1-2-3 blocks?
To be completely honest, scratchbuilding vehicles - or buildings or other scenery pieces, similar methods apply - for 40K isn't necessarily problematic, perhaps with the exception of Eldar due to all the curves. What is problematic is designing these things to fit the overall aesthetic of armies they're supposed to be part of, and doubly so if the idea is to make them look realistic rather than ridiculous. Then again, GW fails at that most of the time.
