The "Damn It Feels Good to Be a Gangsta" montage in Office Space is by far one of the most zen movie scenes ever made. I always wished it was longer and decided to make it happen.
Footage owned by 20th Century Fox
Music owned by the Geto Boys by Rap-A-Lot Records, Priority Records

I quit my cubicle job after watching this film and got a job as a construction worker. Everyone thought I was nuts. Twenty years later, I own a construction firm, and I am happy. Few months ago I met one of my ex colleague at Walmart. He is a manager now, but told me that he is jaded, unhappy and wonders where his life went. I owe my life to this film.

This movie saved me way before the plandemic. I saw it the first time while I was at the office on a weekend. I was young and realized there might be a better way to live. And years later when everyone had to get the arm ticket just to work, I was already set up. Now they’ve all got heart problems. So this movie may have saved my life as well as helped me find happiness.

I worked as a stockbroker for the better part of my twenties (2013-2018) and absolutely hated it. One day my boss told me to wash his land rover on my lunch break and joked in a serious way that if i didn't i’d lose my job. Something just snapped in me and i told him to go fuck himself and i walked off to my desk. Needless to say i was fired for insulting a superior the next day, and you know what, i was smiling ear to ear walking out of that soulless building. I've been working as a carpenter for the past 2 years and I absolutely love it. Like peter says at the end “aint so bad making bucks, getting some exercise, working outside....." I make less but i’ve never been happier. Legendary movie!

So about ten years ago I was making this new report at work that was the summary of the status of our total list of projects. I told my boss I was going to name it the "Total Project Summary Reports, or TPS Report for short" figuring he would say "yea right. guess again." But... he had never seen the movie. so for years every week I delivered the TPS Report. Everyone except the managers were in on the joke. People would say to me "How can you talk about something called the TPS Report with a straight face?" Finally, one day he came to my desk grinning and said "I saw this move last night I had never seen before and it made me think of you." I said "Oh yea? what movie?" and he replied "Office Space." And then EVERYONE within earshot DIED laughing. The joke that had been years in the making finally reached its punchline.

This is a different situation entirely, but one time I had a job and I was really anxious all the time about it. Working my ass off, coming home tired everyday, boss finding more and more things to hound me about. One day I just said, "Boss, you're gonna hate me, but I'm leaving and I might not be back." She warned me not to do it. I took off my uniform, got on my bike, and rode home. Didn't show up the next day. Thought one no-call/no-show would be enough to get rid of me. They called me every day for about a week leaving messages asking where I was, that "my absence is being investigated", and that if I continue to miss work, I may be suspended/terminated from the job, despite not showing up for the last week. They finally "terminated my employment" when they realized I wasn't coming back (not until they had my final check ready for me). Never saw that boss again. Realized that the company needed me way more than I "needed" them.

I'm living this lifestyle. Quit my job and moved to a new country, and then got hired back six months later as a "casual employee" with a raise. I don't get healthcare anymore, but I don't need it either since we have socialized medicine here. I work whatever hours I want, whatever days I want. The weather is amazing all year round. I spend my mornings with my cat, work a few hours in the afternoon and drink with my new friends all night. My social life, which had practically disappeared for years, is the best it's ever been. I had my first girlfriend in years (that part was kind of a disaster, but whatever). I started drawing again and even developed a little bit of a reputation in the local art community. I wrote half a novel and one day I'll totally finish it. It's been the best year of my life. And if anything I think I'm slightly MORE productive working less than half time. I'm going to ask for a raise again soon and I'm going to get it. They love me there, and I love them, because they deserve it. You don't have to live this way. You really don't. Set expectations for your life and live up to them.

I liked how he took that cubicle apart and got a window view. I worked for a sociopath and one day out of the blue he announces that we are moving offices across town. Tells me and a co worker Nick to follow him over to the new place. I ask him what is the address? And he says just follow me. So he speeds through town in his silly little Lexus sports car making Nick and I chase him dangerously for no good reason. Anyway, later we get moved and Boss tells me to set up a two section cubical in this big room with windows to parking lot on one side and this fish bowl window to the hallway. I figure I am quitting anyway because the commute is too much and this boss is nuts. So I assemble the cube to block the fishbowl window and give me a nice big view to outside and Boss has no view into "fishbowl". Boss was perturbed. It was not what he expected. Nick and I quit a few weeks later same day.

I had $15,000 in my account when I quit, so that was my crutch for the half year it took to find a new job that is a lot easier and more fun. I work as a car dealership lackey and I transport cars from lot to lot across their locations as well as get them washed and detailed (company can't afford a car transporter service to pick them all up on one truck so they have them driven one by one as need be). Anything from new cars, muscle cars, used cars, vintage cars, whatever. I get a roadtrip, a nice car for the day, my own time for lunch, and get to take car photography which is one of my other hobbies too. Very relaxed and casual. And every day is a unique day, so it never gets "Stale".
