It's widely accepted that Magic Johnson and Larry Bird saved the NBA when they both came into the league in 1979. TV ratings were terrible in the 1970s, and the league had an image problem because of drug use and fighting in the game. Magic and Bird were a breath of fresh air, from opposite ends of the country. Most championships in the 1980s were either Magic's Lakers or Bird's Celtics.

When you guys ask if these types are passes and this skill level is still relevant in today's game, it is, very much so. In fact, the game has evolved a ton since Magic's hey-day in the 80s. But there never was nor will there ever be a better passer in the game of basketball than Magic Johnson. This man is on another planet with his creativity, agility, and awareness and simply cannot have his passing skill compared with anybody else without disrespecting his level.

Mike has a big part of it with "awareness". I played BB most of my youth and "court awareness" and anticipation was critical (i was a point guard). You had to see the play forming and get the ball to the open man--unless that was you and then you took your shot if that was the best available. I see the same thing when I watch soccer (football!)--though I never played but for messing around --it just happens at the speed of light in basketball and hockey--movement,movement movement in small spaces all of the time--a real brain and vision sport.

The era of 1980-1998 Magic and Bird and Jordan (Jordan entered in 1984) was an insane era of the NBA. The league was stacked with talent. Guys you guys have probably never heard of but those that follow the game would know as Legends like Reggie Miller, Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing, etc. To put it in football terms these would be players of the stature of an Xavi or Iniesta or a Viera, that is recognized by fans as some of the best players in their era. Disagree, I'm American and i could 100% see Fury as a basketball player where he born in the US. He's agile enough, quick. He could be a center. Even if he couldn't score as a center he'd could probably be a defensive shot stopper supreme.

I think Magic is the best of all time. He nearly avg. a triple-double, and even played center and still scored 42 points with 15 boards. If Lebron or Jordan only scored 10 points, you would likely think their team was going to lose the game, Magic brought something different though to the game, the court was a chess board and he knew where every piece was - he made the entire team better with his style of play. He could have an off night and only score only 10 points but the Lakers were dangerous because their best player didn't have to score 40 - 50 points to win. That's what made him special.

Point guards are essentially the basketball equivalent of quarterbacks. Nearly all of the action, play-making and ball handling starts with them. Magic was easily one of the greatest points to ever run the break. Along with Bird and Jordan, he was a force of nature on the court. The Lakers v Celtics rivalry was one of the greatest, most electric rivalries in the sport. Bird was a forward who could handle the ball like a point guard, and Magic was a point guard who could play like a foward.

Magic had to retire at age 32. The year prior to retiring he was in the NBA Finals and #2 in the MVP voting. He played 12 seasons went to 9 finals winning 6. He retired as the all time total assist and steal leader and still holds the assist per game record. Only rookie to win finals MVP (which he won 2 more). 3 league MVPs, 12 all stars (every year), 2 all star MVPs, 10x's all nba team (9 1st team), and I could keep going. He is on the short list of goat contention. So knows of he had a full career where he was able to play to age 40 where he would be on the list. The greatest what if.

Ready to Jason “white chocolate” Williams if you like those electrifying passes. Also can I recommend DR. J. The original Jordan. His dunks in the 70s and early 80s were sick

When Magic was diagnosed with HIV no one wanted to play with him or be touched by him and he was forced to retire from the NBA. The man is now a Billionaire. That’s what I call a success story.

Yup he’s the playmaker. The position in basketball is called Point Guard and he is known as the best Point Guard of all Time. I hope you react to the Larry bird mixtape, and then the Michael Jordan ‘historic mixtape” < that’s the best video!

And its gotta be said that his team was great too. I mean you have to be ready at every single second because Magic would just make something happen and the ball will be flying perfectly at you. Just highly skilled players and shocks me when people say that this old school couldnt handle todays players.
