Shaq is 7’1 and in his playing days was probably 320-350 pounds. He said in an interview awhile back he was 395 when the Lakers won their third straight tile.

@@fezzik7619 Nah he was way over 330 at times later in his career. Not 395 though. In his prime shape with Orlando he was in the low 300's. He use to be pretty damn nimble and fast at that size.

@@MM-jc7uv I guarantee he was heavier than 330. In fact it was famously one of Kobe's biggest gripes about him. Also why would he lie to make himself look bad? He says he weighed 395 and I've never heard anyone on that team dispute it.

Those other guys are retired legend Barkley, retired legend Kenny “the Jet” Smith (who won two rings during those two seasons Michael Jordan played baseball), and the only and only Ernie Johnson. Not a former player but legend who has a perpetual pass to the BBQ.

The TNT cast is usually Shaq, Charles and Kenny (all of whom used to be NBA players) plus Ernie Johnson who is a sportscaster. Ernie might not have played in the league but make no mistake, he’s just as much a part of the group as any of the other guys.

The NBA changed the basket design requirements after his rookie year. Saw one of the bench players from the Laker days telling a story about having just be drafted and was walking from his apartment to practice. Shaq was driving by asked him what he was doing. He said he didn't have a car and was walking to practice. Shaq say "My teamates don't walk" reached into his glove box or center console and tossed him a rolled up wad of money. Somewhere int he 5 figure range.

Shaq was one of the first players to have marketing on multiple levels unrelated to basketball. Films, music, shoes, clothes, tons of ads sponsoring products. He was one of the first multimedia-era superstars of the 90s- his management and agents were geniuses and profited off of the road paved by the 80s guys.

NBA is always a glass backboard but it's they are build pretty strong and now they shatter if they break to prevent injury. Back in the 70s a famous player named Daryll Dawkins was famous for breaking backboards so they started making them more resilient. The rims also flex to withstand the weight of a human. But Shaq is huge and sometimes that's not enough.

Shaq and Chuck are mates now, but during their playing careers, there was definitely some animosity between them at times. Teammates and refs basically stopped them from straight up fighting.

As someone who is 6'2 and has met Shaq (when he played for Boston) I can confirm that it is a whole different world of tall. I grew up with quite a few friends who were 6'5 and 6'6, even had one friend who is 6'8. 5 inches taller than a 6'8 person feels like adding a whole foot on to a 5'8 person. When outside of your friend group you're used to being considerably taller than most people, standing next to someone who is 7'1 is the first time in your life you will ever feel utterly diminutive in stature.

Office blokes Shaquille O'Neal is 7 FT 1 in tall 324 lb So 23.143 Stone Also I've never seen a backboard in the NBA that was not glass. You have to have the audience be able to see through the board, because the NBA seats people behind the rim. Would be a terrible blind spot if you couldn't see through it
